Undershirts

Mar 14, 2011 21:05

If all goes well I will have an interview soon (it's a gig I'm currently perma-temping in) and I have a dress picked out - it's cut a bit lower than I'd like but wearing my usual long sleeves under it would not look right. (this one in a blue-grey and cream tights from Sock Dreams) I've got a dark brown jacket-ish thing to deal with the sleeves, ( Read more... )

There's one of those 'as seen on tv' products (can't think of the name!) that's basically a triangle of fabric that clips to the front of your bra straps and gives the illusion of an undershirt without the bulk. Could you pick up one of those or devise one on your own?

That's a thought. I'll probably hit the Mormon thrift shop to see what they have but it wouldn't be hard to hem a matching piece of knit fabric to go in the neck. Hmm.

You can get a "dickie" to wear in the front and a cardigan to cover your arms, or you could wear a long sleeve layering T in a contrasting color. Either way would be cute. Personally, I find dickie collars difficult because they can show lines under slinky fabric, and I worry that they will scrunch up. I mainly use them under V neck sweaters.

This was as close as Google could get to the jacket-ish thing (nekkid manikin is nekkid), only dark brown. Got it at Goodwill for $6 and it's a workhorse for me. So the arms are taken care of, but it's still low enough to make bra show. -_- And yeah, I'm concerned about lines showing and slippage, I'm enough of a klutz as is without have to worry about that too.

In that case, I'd go with a sleeveless shell that has an appropriate neckline.

http://www.junees.com/category.php?id=13 This company specializes in modest clothing solutions, and all of their layering pieces are very thin and smooth. I think you'd be very happy with anything they have. Just be aware that the sizes can run small, so email them with your measurements if you have any questions.

The pink sleeveless one is just about perfect - find them sometimes at the Mormon shop. I pondered getting pink tights for this and then changed to the ivory and getting the pink ones for Easter. It would all work well and plus extra sets made for clothing. IT works best for me if I have 2 or three solid outfits that can be changed up enough that I wear basically the same thing to work every day and no one notices.

i vote go for a layering long sleeve shirt under it..perhaps in white or cream. or a lighter blue if it would match correctly.

The tights are cream colored (the cotton ones from Sock Dreams - I love living two miles from their store), my one cream colored shell was the one that got ink3d. I do have a long sleeved lace top that might work, but I'm afraid it'd look lumpy because of the fit. I'm kinda stuck on using this dress because it's one of those you throw in a bag and don't worry about it, I hate feeling wrinkled in a suit. Also we're not overly formal, my boss has been known to show up in his gym clothes. SGIHDUSPGRSEG BUSINESS MODEST IS HARD. I have my day to day clothes worked out - long sleeve shirts with a funny/cool short sleeve over, assorted skirts - but that's my normal clothes that I wore every day before I started back there ANYWAY. My last gig wasn't so bad because we had a pretty firm dress code (khakis and collars) that I could work in. This time around I want to dress nicely but not over shoot - and an actual suit would be that with this group ( ... )

Target does indeed have tissue t's. If you don't find them in the store, check target.com out. And while the dress you linked to *is* beautiful, the reviews were all pretty firm on saying the fabric snagged and pulled terribly, cheap fabric for a more expensive dress, etc.

OK, I'll keep a better eye out next time.

The dress does indeed pill, but I got it for $15 on clearance so at least I didn't over pay for it. :)

Oh, that's a really nice dress! I'd wear that with a camisole underneath it, though maybe not a stiff silk or satin shell.
