RULES

Jan 29, 2012 12:19

Since this is a Dressing Room, the rules are pretty relaxed, but like all RP comms, we do have the usual few.

1 - In Character actions do mean In Character consequences.   If you choose to play a criminal, then you are accepting the high chance that they are going to get caught.  This IS a DR for Sherlock Holmes, after all.

2 - IC=//=OOC   I shouldn't have to say this.  But it's true.  If you don't like someone, then that's your problem with the player, not the character they're playing.  Likewise, if you don't like the way someone is playing, take it up with the player, don't troll the character.  If things are really that bad, don't hesitate to bring it up with the mods, and we can hopefully help sort it out before they blow up.

3 - No godmodding  I know that it'll seem like it's a kind of blurred line at times, but please do your best.  When having a character do their deductions, do make use of what has already been in tags, or message them privately for what the deducer might be able to figure out.

For anyone who isn't aware of what this is, it is when one player attempts to control what another player's character is saying, doing or even wearing.  This can be extended to when one player/character assumes something about another in an unrelated thread, and does not explicitly state that the other player is comfortable with this.

4 - Please use the tags system.  There are a lot of Sherlock Holmes canons - if we can't at LEAST keep track of who's who and who sticks mostly to their own canon or not, we're going to get lost pretty fast.  That said, while they've been left open for people to add their own, please use the given system.

E.g:au: sherlock holmes, au: shrunk  or, alternatively, canon: sherlock holmes

4a.  There is a difference between AU and Canon. Sometimes it is obvious.  If someone plays a Sherlock who has dragon wings, then that is obviously AU.  Sometimes it is less so.

The easiest and best way to tell is this:  If your character were to be randomly put into a scene from their own canon and interacting with their canon castmates, would those people see something off and/or odd about them?  This - whether you like it or not - includes a character's sexuality.  Everyone is welcome, but here, 'canon' relates to exactly what was written/scripted/acted/etc, along with historical context.  Meaning that if, say, Sherlock from the BBC series was in a romantic relationship of ANY kind, that would be AU, since he has explicitly stated that he isn't interested.  Anything else is pure speculation on our part.  Regardless of how canonical it may SEEM.

On the other hand, 'Canon' can often be contradictory.  There can indeed be an Arthur Conan Doyle-canon Dr. Watson who was shot in the leg, and another who was shot in the shoulder.  If something makes sense yet no one has mentioned whether it may or may not be true as of yet, and no one has said anything to contradict it, then this character with that history/idea/etc. may be tagged as canon.

If you have any concerns about this, please do not hesitate to ASK.
The mods will do their best to be as fair as possible.
5 - Only Sherlock Holmes related characters can join.  This may seem obvious again, but it needs to be said.  You can join with a crossover character, an AU (so long as they are mostly recognisable) or even an OC, as long as they have a connection to Holmes.  Characters from other series, however - such as Detective Conan, other anime/manga and other literature/films - are not allowed in.  This is a Dressing Room, not a panfandom MMORPG.

6 - Spoilers.  Please do be aware that some people may not have seen certain episodes or canons.  Some might not need spoiler tags, but some DO.  In this event, all you need to do is hide the main body of the spoilery text away under a cut.  Problem solved.

7 - Adult content is to be f-locked.  I do not deny that this comm may contain adult content, be this crime-related (gory murders, attempted murder, threats and rape are all possible) or related to other events in their lives (sex, alcohol, drugs, for example).  If you think that this kind of content is or is going to be in your post, put it behind a cut and friends-lock it.

All in all?  I think this is really just common sense stuff.  We are here to have fun, and these rules are only there to make sure that we do.

If there's anything else, don't hesitate to leave a message here or PM the Mod account.
