plastic surgery short cuts.

Last night, lack of entertaining televsion ment that I ended up watching 4 corners for a little while.

It, fortunately, was about something I find interesting.

Plastic surgery.

It was about how plastic surgery (specifically tummy tucks) was carried out in day surgery centres ("doctors rooms") because "doctors rooms" didn't need acreditation, so there were no standards.

Now, the "advantage" to the paitent was that the amount they paid on their surgery was claimable by 75-80% because drs rooms are not hosptials, so therefore the whole amount goes towards the safety net, whereas any hosptial out of pocket costs are not. So people who get their surgery done in drs rooms can get roughly $5k back. I only got $1k back. But you know what.. its not about the money.

If you have major surgery in a drs room because you want to save some money, then quite frankly, your an idiot.

Hosptials have to meet strict standards (and even then we know how crap most of them are) but still - there are standards and regulations for a reason. They showed a dr performing surgery in a drs room, and for the first time he had an anethitist. Usually he did not use them. The paitent was awake, and could feel the lipo. She was twitching in pain. The dr wanted her knocked out and a high amount of pain killer inserted into her IV - but the anethitist only gave the dr about half of what he wanted. If the dr was there by himself, he would have done it all. The thing is that is dangerous because you need to have your airways clear and be on oxygen when your ko'ed.

I can't believe the risks some people take to save money. Its your body - its your life. If you don't understand the severity of the operation, or the fact that there is a high chance things go wrong and complications arise, then you shouldn't be having the surgery.

It doesn't all fall on the paitent - because many belive what drs tell them, but you do have some responsability for yourself. And with the internet, its easy enough to research anything.

The drs do share some of the responsability as well.. but like 4 corners said.. at the end of the day they are providing a service for a fee.. which makes paitents customers.. so... customers be ware.

Speaking of surgery - I started back at the gym today. Got 16 weeks until the ball, so I have to try and get a bit thinner between then and now. The shitty thing is I have surgery again on the 1st, which will aggravate my swelling lol but oh well. The other shitty thing is I have swollen up so much from between the gym and home haha my body will have to deal with it.
