I'm curious to know how you store all your ships once they are finished. Those I still have are in my garage, and are deteriorating rapidly.
I have seen some of your Bismarck posts - your model looks good.
The first challenge I will have with the Cutty Sark will be producing a good set of construction plans. I saw a set of three small scale plans in the gift shop showing the hull and deck plans, rigging layout and sail plan respectively in the exhibition shop. These need to be scaled up to a usable size.
Cutty Sark's hull is 86m overall length x 11m beam x 7m draft. At a scale of 1:64 this will result in a model 1.344m overall length x 0.172m beam x 0.11m draft, weighing 3.56kg. I suspect that some modifications are going to be needed to produce a model which will be sailable (ie increase the draft, weight, and rudder area) without losing too much of the above-waterline scale appearance. I also have a mind to replicate her composite construction in miniature as far as possible. Radio control will be essential, with multiple sail winches. Given that 1:64 is not a "standard" scale all of the fittings and boats will have to be hand built.
Let me know when you plan to be in England in December so that we can arrange a meet. I live within 40 miles of London.
I'll be in England from the 17th December to the 28th December, but at the moment, not totally sure where. I might be in either Manchester or Northampton for Christmas. Flying to Ireland on the 28 December.
Thee only fixed date in that is the 17th December other dates may change at anytime without warning.
