Character Personality: Nanao is a professional, through and through: she’s driven, brisk, direct, and keeps her cool under pressure. As a member of the wealthy, upper-class Ise family and thus, an object of much social scrutiny, Nanao is well-versed in all the social niceties expected of a woman of her station and is extremely fastidious about her image and reputation. Prim, proper, and poised, she imposes exacting standards upon herself and the people around her to the point of being a control-freak: inefficiency, incompetence and generally shameful behavior are things she will not tolerate. As a result of all the pressure she puts upon herself, as well as her family’s demanding expectations, Nanao is wound rather tight; when circumstances finally cause her to snap, the glasses come off and...well, rumor has it that grown men cower in the face of her temper.
Character Brief History: Nanao is the youngest daughter of the famed Ise family. While perhaps they do not possess the history of other upper-class families, the Ise clan is still renowned for its legacy of producing exceptionally talented heirs. Her father is a highly influential politician and her mother an heiress. Her older brother is a high-profile attorney and her glamorous older sister-who was not as accomplished as her siblings, but still perfectly intelligent-had done her duty by her family by marrying the heir to a wealthy family. Nanao was not nearly as captivating or as sociable as her sister, but she did possess a keen intellect and a stubborn sense of determination-too much like her father in that regard. As it was clear she was not suited to serve her family in the same way her sister did, her decision to follow in the footsteps of her father and her brother was therefore encouraged, and she, of course, attended all the finest schools in her pursuit of the legal profession.
Nanao’s father was able to pull some strings and land her a job at the illustrious Soul Society Inc. as soon as she graduated law school this past May. She was disappointed that she had not gotten a job in the Legal Department where she thought her skills were best suited, but as the personal assistant/secretary to one of the Executive Chairmen instead. Still, being the dutiful daughter she was, she swallowed her pride and vowed to attack her job with the same determination with which she tackled her studies. That determination, as it turns out, will be sorely tested as she learns to work with (in her own words) “the laziest, most insufferable, buffoon I have ever met”: Kyouraku Shunsui.
