"Pick up dry cleaning. 2 p.m."

The post it was a bright pink...but now it looks more of a dusty rose color. You know, like that weird pink crayon in your big box of 96 colors that you don't know exactly what to do with? The constant exposure to sunlight of course caused the color to fade. And the actual paper to wrinkle, so it looks like a piece of newspaper. It was written on in pencil, which I never really think is a good idea, and the lettering's more than a little smudged, but the message is still clear. This, of course, makes me think of a myriad of questions to find the answers to later.

Like...have you ever really sat and thought about a post-it? I've always wondered why the first ones were this drab yellow, like the color paint you'd find in your aunt's kitchen. The idea is obviously absolute genius, and Arthur Fry is sitting on a fortune. But, why yellow? I personally thought the idea of the post-it was to help you remind yourself of little chores or errands that you normally let slip your mind, until of course you looked at the post-it that you stuck to your fridge, or on the page of the newspaper you're most likely to read first. But, if you're like me, you'd still forget, because your reminder was still dull canary yellow.

As we've all seen over the years, the shape and color of this small wonder varied dramatically. Now we've got lime green, hot pink, electric blue, fiery orange, and even a variation of canary yellow. Along with stars, fish, smiley faces, longer rectangles, shorter rectangles, the possibilities of reminding yourself were endless, and hopefully more effective with brighter colors to help catch your eye of the reminder note you wrote yourself.

Until about ten seconds ago, I couldn't tell you how long this note has been affixed to my monitor. I have a clear view of my closet, which is wide open and noticed something was missing. There was a suit I was going to wear to the premiere of Step Up that had an odd stain on the lapel. I found it kind of odd that it was missing come red carpet time, and opted for another. Now I know. Pick up dry cleaning. 2 p.m. Five months later. Good job reminding me, post-it note.

I guess next time I'll know to pick a different color. In a star shape. I need to write that down so I don't forget.
