I recommend posting the rules on the community info page. You've already done that so that's good!
I'm noticing lately, a lot of deleted comments and replies in threads.
Yeah, that happens sometimes: people think better of their comment, post it as a sort of post+delete message to someone in the assumption the recipient will've got an e-mail of it, or decide to re-write it.
I was wondering if there's a way to keep replies and comments from being deleted...
Nope. Others have suggested it in the past. It'll probably never happen on the site though - the reasons raised were because it'd take away full control from users of the content they post.
or to have a copy of them emailed to the mods?
Nope, community maintainers can't get general community comment notifications. You can view links to comments posted to the community at the recent comments page though? [http://www.livejournal.com/tools/recent_comments.bml]
I checked in the community settings, and it looks like it's already set up to email comments to the community's main email address. But that isn't happening...
Ooh you're right! :) I think this is a bug. The manage settings pages were re-designed recently. It looks like the options unavailable for community accounts stay visible when changing from viewing personal journal settings to community settings. I'll report it as a bug. It makes the page confusing, hopefully it'll be fixed soon. :o)
On the offchance I learn something's changed recently and community maintainers *can* get all of the community's comment emails now, of course I'll comment back.
