Friday was the day of the Glass Tiger concert at Alderney Landing which is the ferry terminal for the Dartmouth Ferry. Missy and I decided we could park there early for the concert and take the ferry over to Halifax and screw around until the show later. That worked out perfect, we probably had the best parking for the show. As we walked by the concert site, they were doing Glass Tiger's soundcheck-eek! I tried to peek in and made poor Missy wait while we listened to them do part of a song. I couldn't see them but hearing them made me totally excited to see them again. We took the ferry and I got some good pictures of the city from that boat ride.
Once back in Halifax, we went to a store called Biscuit which had some unique girlie type stuff. Then we hopped around Barrington, more CD shopping this time at Sam the Record Man. Our theme of bad female singers continued as a gal was playing acoustic in the store but at least she had a Sloan sticker on her guitar case. After all the stores closed on Barrington (too early on a Friday night!) We tried to find a place to eat again. I think the place we ended up was called Peddler's Row. We had fish and chips again but it was mediocre at best. What was good about the place turned out to be the band playing for their happy hour. I figured it was some type of cover band based on the bar but they turned out to be really good.
http://www.threeseasonant.com/ They didn't seem to have their CDs for sale but I will order them. I guess they are from New Brunswick according to their website. Time to ride the ferry back to Dartmouth as it turned night and almost time for the show.
We entered the concert venue and I looked at the opening band's merch and they had albums and 45's for sale. I looked closer and thought, I have an album from this band. They were called The Trees and apparently they had a Much Music hit in 1988. Now it is embarrassing in my world that I didn't immediately recognize them by name but I moved in 1987 and at first, I had little way to keep in tune with the Canadian music scene. I had no internet radio or Much Music satellite feed. So I had actually just picked up their LP a few years ago on a vinyl binge in London, Ontario. I didn;t recognize either of their hits. (Horrors to admit!) Melissa called me a music snob playfully as I was appalled that an 80's Canadian band was doing covers by Depeche, New Order, etc.. So, it finally hits me I am going to see one of the Top 5 kings in the Canadian 80's list that my old pals Nina and Karen had. Yes, I got teary when GT came on stage. More to come including a Tiger remembering me!
