dictionary of a marriage

Aug 19, 2005 18:48

Last night, (we put the boys to bed by 8:30)....and stepped back in time.

You put the kettle on while I watched bad TV
Mugs of hot black tea with sugar and cream
a scrabble board, and the old notebook we used as a log for scores
2002 was the last time.

3 years since we sat side by side
        and challenged each other

Luck was on my side

( I draw A from the pouch, while you draw W)
I go first.

As usual, I am quick to lead, to pounce, to show my tricks and my impatience, to get points and points
        and you

You
wait
for
me

(you always have the strategy, the patience....)

I am 40 points ahead
              you pull out a word
"humpers"
I challenge
not.a.word.
Merriam-Webster confirms.

And you lose a turn.

At midnight we stop the game(you are only 2 points behind)
...to continue another time.
              Time for bed
Today you said...

"humpers is a word"
what? in what dictionary were you looking?
"the dictionary we had between midnight and 2 a.m. last night."
       oh

(you always have the strategy, the patience....)

2 steps forward
