I've always found book themes quite tricky to vote on, to be honest, and since I personally see all the three books quite similar it makes things even more challenging. But in the end I think I will settle for a Mockingjay vote; for one, in it Katniss doesn't act as differently from her actual personality as she does in The Hunger Games or Catching Fire, and I think out of the trilogy it fits your x'd words the best, having the most information about the rebellion, quite a lot of action and tragedy, and I think a lot of the events in it were definitely unexpected.
I think Catching Fire could also fit, but since romance plays a less prevalent role in Mockingjay and you don’t consider it important the third book fits a little bit better; except for the fact that your favourite character isn’t himself for the most part in the story…which is one of the reasons I initially wanted to vote for the second book. There is a lot of action in the war scenes and determination, rebellion and tragedy (!) remind me very much of Mockingjay. It is also the most serious and realistic (?) book of THG trilogy and it fits your your personality description in a way, methinks.
