Vampire hunter

Matt's heart was racing, but his composure was as still as he could manage. This was the day he had trained years for. This would be his first kill, or this would be the day he would be killed. He had just turned twenty-one, and it was tradition for the children to mark their adulthood by hunting their first vampire ( Read more... )

(that's okay! That's my favorite Mello anyway XD)

Matt pressed his back against the cold brick wall. He couldn't rush into a situation without thinking. He had done that so many times before that he had almost lost several fingers because of it. He knew that this time, he could loose more than just a few fingers.

He swallowed, a nervous lump in his throat forming by the second. His eyes scanned the area, alert behind the tinted goggles. Everything was shown in yellow and gold hues. He never parted with his goggles. They had been a gift given to him when he had become old enough to train.

He was a vampire hunter, and he was determined to make the organization proud.

The redhead spotted the blond walking past him, but the scent of blood wasn't on him. He exhaled slowly, the nervous tension faded for a moment. It was just a normal human. Or so he thought....

A small shiver ran through Mello’s body and his attention was captured by a form at his side; the blue icy eyes moved, looking at him. It wasn’t the person that called him; it was the heart beat that raced inside of him. Such fear… or was it excitement the redhead was feeling? Either way, whatever he felt, this would be interesting for Mello, who always was looking for a good hunt.

The dark figure stopped two steps away from the boy he just had spotted. He’d be a perfect prey “Are you lost?” Mello looked over his shoulder, giving a small smile “You’re new here; this place can be dangerous, don’t you know?”

Matt turned his head toward the blond and blinked behind his goggles. Something didn't seem right with the way the man's words fell from his lips. He placed his hands in his pockets as he pushed himself away from the wall. "I'm not lost." He replied softly.

Matt pulled out a cigarette and lit it between his lips. He took a deep breath, then exhaled the smoke from his lungs. "Why is it so dangerous?" He asked curiously. He wanted to know what kind of answer he would get from this stranger.

“Don’t you know?” Mello turned his body to Matt now, behind his glasses watching the thin structure of the other; hm, maybe the chase wouldn’t be really that exciting considering the lack of strength the human seemed to have. Still, maybe he could turn the tables and actually make this fun. “You are in a place like this and you don’t know the danger?” there was a small chuckle, and finally the blonde took off his glasses, mouthing softly, almost looking like he had some sort of sick pleasure when mentioning it “Vampires”.

The way the blond said that made Mat cringe. He took a step back and narrowed his eyes. "You're one, aren't you?"

"Do I look like one" Mello tilted his head to the side, amused. "Vampires don't usually talk to their preys, they simply attack" So Mello said; obviously it was a lie since himself was right now chatting with this cute mouse.

That was true, in Matt's experience. In most of the hunter's experience. Usually they didn't run into vampires that were just as smart as them; the ones that weren't ruled by feral desires. He blew a cloud of smoke in Mello's face and walked past him. "Well, you don't look like any hunter I've ever seen." He made the mistake of commenting. "I should have known I wouldn't be the only one out around these parts."

Something buzzed in Mello’s mind; did this guy just give away what he was exactly doing here?! This was actually something Mello wasn’t expecting, but it suddenly made all of the vampire’s thoughts about going on a hunt tonight disappear “Obviously” the worst part is that Mello had now to pretend he was a young vampire hunter “It’s your first hunt?”

"That depends on who is asking." Matt shot the blond a daring glance. This was his hunt, and he wouldn't let another get in his way. That wasn't how things were supposed to play out.

He started walking down the street, head tilted just slightly so he could hear the blond's movements if he made any. He knew better than to let his guard down, even when he turned his back.

Snotty brat.
Who the hell did he though he was?! Mello didn’t move, simply leaned against the wall and took from his pocket a chocolate bar, licking it slowly “Do you even know where you are going?” he didn’t look at the redhead as asked this, simply looked front while his mouth tasted the sweetness of the dark chocolate he ate. “Don’t come in here and think this is your place” that’s when his head turned slowly, looking at the hunter “Especially when you are a newbie at this place, like you”.

Mello tended to get rid of any problem it might come; this included Vampire Hunters. That’s why there weren’t many around anyway; sending this kid here alone was suicide. But then, it could be just a trick, and he could be just bait.

"I know where I am. I was assigned a target." He muttered in reply. "You'd better not get in my way." He turned sharply and held out his arm, finger pointed at the blond like a gun. "You'll regret it."

He stared at the blond for a few moments longer and snorted.

Not only he was snotty, he was an idiot. Mello looked at him for a second then heard the snort “Aren't you so cocky?” He definitively wasn’t finding this amusing at all, anymore. Probably because Mello saw himself in a difficult position, thinking about if he should kill this person or not, while it might be a trap.

"It's in the job description, didn't you read the handout?" Matt replied with a smug little smirk. He waved his hand in the air and turned around. "Now if you don't mind, I'm busy, and you're distracting me."

“You won’t find any vampires here” because this was Mello’s area, and there were no other creatures aside him; usually Vampires aren’t territorial, and they don’t stick to an area alone, but the blonde vampire has grown strong enough to actually maintain this as his place and to send away any vampire who dared to try to touch his preys (namely, anyone that lived close by).

"And how would you know?" Matt retorted, his nerves starting to get agitated. "I was told there was one close to here." He grumbled. One, specifically by the name of Aiba.
