Finals, report 1.

Dec 16, 2008 17:00

I've been feeling physically ill about my orgranic chemistry final. I was worried about my grade, because I was sure that getting a 70-80 would be an incredibly optimistic outlook (of course, the class is curved, so a 70 doesn't necessarily mean a low C). I could have picked it up Friday or yesterday, but I didn't want to depress myself further before I took my final in Physics.

I took my Physics 2 final this morning. I believe I did very well on it. I'm expecting to have not less than a 46 out of 54. (Counting stupid errors, plus the mistake I know I made, plus the one I'm not sure about....but I could have a higher score.) I'll know on Friday.

Afterwards, I went over and grabbed my chem final. I somehow managed to get an 82. What really helped me was the 10 point bonus (we had to read IR & 1H NMR spectroscopy and given a general chemical formula of C5H12O, determine the structure. One structure = ten points...and it's not the easiest thing to do!) Thank goodness for that bonus because I managed to get a full 10 points. I also managed to get 8 out of 10 on the synthesis (I messed up the last little bit of it getting to the target molecule, but I managed to get the three starters to the very end point!) My biggest bad thing was reactions. That's where I lost most of my points. And usually it was because I could react part of it, but putting a molecule through 3 or 4 reactions is rife for opportunity for make some stupid mistake. (and I am queen of the stupid mistake!)

So, it's giving me hope that I'll get at least a B in the class. I don't know know what the curve is going to be, so I don't know more than that.

Anyway, I'm feeling much better now that I have those results. If I couldn't get through this class, I don't know how much hope I'd have to get through all of the biochem classes. It's true that after I took that test I went and drowned my sorrows, so to bring it full circle, now I'm getting ready to go celebrate with some great tex-mex and a fruity margarita!   :D
