Dard-e-Disco!

With barely 7 labor days to go, things have been shaping up well. As with all projects, the momentum increases towards the fag end. We are more-or-less happy though. However, the move date has been postponed so many times. Since the tiling work is now out of way (today being the last day), I am quite confident that the remaining progress will be quick as long as the labors turn up as promised. Anyway, hoping for the best!

We are using more-or-less custom designs. To add to our brilliant plans, the interior designer has had some useful inputs too. And I am even more in awe of Google, if it were possible.

This is the foyer, where after much deliberation, we tracked the temperature and decided to make a wine bottle rack. Love it.

We got rid of the balcony wall/window/door annexed to the living room area to create a nice sit-out kind of a niche with sliding glass door in powder-coated aluminium + pin-head glass. This photo doesn't show the actual design. This was an erroneous one. The fabricator is going to get the correct doors on Friday.

The previous owners had created a dingy servant room. We do not plan to have a live-in servant ever and even if we do, this is too tiny even for a pet. So, we decided to turn in into a walk-in-wardrobe with louver doors, polished to match the existing (so-called) French door provided by the builder.

Here's my most favorite part of the apartment! The bar-cum-kitchen-cum-utility area. There is a bar cabinet (not shown in photo) on the far left wall and an utility room to the far right (not in photo). The suspended pinewood structure is a wine-glass holder, designed by me. The bar counter was Arvi's idea and it looks great! The kitchen cabinets are going to be done completely in white laquer. All-in-all, it looks great with red frosted glass on top cabinets and red-cream tiles that I hand-picked from Kajaria.

The master bathroom is fairly dark and doesn't get much daylight. It was too small to be called a master bath anyway. Luckily, the common bathroom shared a common wall with the master bath, so we knocked the wall off and combined these two bathrooms to create a king-size bath. We moved all the plumbing to the outer wall to avoid seepage and any other re-construction defects. Again, I hand-picked the tiles from Kajaria. To counter for the darkness inside, the wall has 7feet dado in pure white tiles. Bizzaza tiles were my first choice for the bathtub, but they were way over my budget, so I went with the same pattern as in the kitchen dado, but in blue. The flooring is done in textured tiles with a sort of a bluish tinge and grainy finish.

In the Study, we went a little conservative, but the cabinetry with pullout drawers were custom designed by me. Pullouts are more Arvi friendly.

The terrace is another highlight. It is roughly 1200 sq ft in expanse, so we do not want to do too much and encroach into the space it creates. We decided to keep the landscaping on hold so we get a feel of the space after living there a while. For now, we did what we really Really REALLY wanted - Solar water heater, glass house, bar under pergola.

This is the glass house, custom designed by Arvi. Going by the plans, it will look amazing if executed per the design.

The Solar with the bar and planters next to it. The tubes had to be covered with a sheet owing to the summer sun since we won't be using it till April 1st.

A view of the Pergola from underneath. We went with metal since it was about 5k cheaper than Pinewood. The design was mine after going through multiple photos found on the Google image search. This will have vines and creepers growing about during the rains in Bangalore.

All, sans the solar, is going to be painted brick red to match the color of the terracotta tiles. Lighting will be ethnic.

This is what has kept me occupied for the last 3 months. It is not over yet - light fittings, electronics, furniture (booked obviously)... So much to do. I can't wait any longer; SO excited!
