Home, new home!

Happy New Year and all to y'all!

The end of '08 and beginning of '09 has been extremely selfish and hectic. For us, I mean. Arvi bought us a penthouse!

I have a lot else to write about. Like how went went on a vacation to Coorg with Ma Belle and she chased chicken! How she is a total darling and slept through the drive to and fro. About how the part-time job is not-so-part-time any longer. About the Satyam fiasco. About how I totally LOVED the very bollywood Slumdog Millionaire and love Love LOVE Rahman for winning more International recognition! And mostly, about how, the work on my book has come to a standstill and in the nights, I sometimes almost cry thinking about what I would love to do, but can't do for a while.

But, we have an apartment! And that's so exciting! :D

Now, since I am responsible for seeing the interior work through, I worked really hard in zeroing down on a team that can see the work end-to-end.

Bangalore, being Bangalore, is extremely expensive and full of con wo/men. Honestly, this exasperating, but educative quest of finding a reliable interior person has been something! I have had people ask me for INR. 18,00,000 and to think we are not even making as many alterations/demands. How can they forget that you can actually buy 3BHKs at this rate on the outskirts of the city? Grrr! More details on the interior designer cum fleecers, later...

Anyway, we have finally found someone who has displayed the credibility we were looking for. Their estimates are reasonable too. Hopefully, they will deliver what they have committed to. The work started this morning, yay!!!

However, I am engaging another vendor for the interior painting and stuff. I am personally buying some of the kitchen and bathroom fittings and also, the lights fittings. Ironically, I find that buying ready-made furniture is costing me lesser than getting something with similar specs custom-made. But then, this is Bangalore. Sigh!

My parents have sold their old apartment. This month end, they are moving into their new row house. And I am going to be there for a week! How exciting, again!

The down-side? I am going to be away from Ma Belle for over a week, for the first time ever. I figured out a way of taking her along with me - Yes, Indian Railway allows you to take your pet along in 1AC - but decided against it because dogs are prone to motion sickness and need to be tranquilized for long a journey. It is only worth if it is a long-term relocation or something, but definitely not worth 7 days. At least she is going to be at Chennai to enjoy the beach and not in some useless Kennel. I love her so much!
