Ma Belle Fetches

Jun 14, 2008 23:55

We had the biggest scare of our lives with Ma Belle's loose motions on Wednesday evening. She did the big job some 15 times in 12 hours, didn't eat, and looked emaciated. She, who was the gentlest, quietest one so far was whimpering in pain and we were helpless. The Lasrados thought she had swallowed some rubbish and hence was reacting thus. They asked us to feed her only water and not panic at least till morning. Arvi and I did not take their advice.

The poor thing was doing so badly that we didn't sleep all night and watching her suffer was immensely painful. Finally, we couldn't hold on any longer and called the vet, the excellent Dr. Pawan Kumar who sits in Indiranagar, at 5.00 AM Thursday. And to our surprise, he answered the phone! He patiently heard us out and prescribed 2 meds to be administered immediately - an antibiotic - Normet, and antacid Rantac and asked us to call him back at around 7.30 AM, and not to feed her anything. We set out and finally found the Pharmacy in the Chinmaya Mission Hospital open. Gave her her first dose and she snoozed.

At 7.30 AM, she was whimpering less, but still weak. We called the doc and he gave us a 11.30 AM appointment. We took the day off and took her to the clinic. They diagnosed her with a severe stomach pain and infection. She being so young, could not digest the whole milk and eggs in her diet. He gave her an IV and a shot, planned a whole new diet chart and sent us off with plenty of reassurances. 2 hours later, as per the doc's instructions, we fed her cerelac and to our relief, she lapped it up gladly. Whew! We couldn't thank Dr.Pawan more.

By the next day, she had overcome her discomfort and was back to her normal body weight. The new diet and doc both worked like magic!

My love is now as active as can be!
