I totally LOVED Rang de Basanti. I thought it was clever and slick in more or less all respects. At par with international movies and better in execution than many international counterparts. I will not demean the movie by comparing it to any of our Indian movies, which are mostly either low budget, badly edited, unnecessarily self indulgent (that's pardonable to a certain extent), boring, or marriage videos. This is a movie that holds its own against all others. Admit it or not, it compels you to take cinema and the money at stake - seriously.

No wonder it is being lauded as it is. For those dissing it, I think it is totally retarded to watch a movie looking for solutions to our problems. Now, Mehra saw the protagonists of his movie behaving in a certain way. They were not the wisest of our lot, so we can not expect a brilliant solution to their problems from them. They were just the average, laid back, escapist, fun loving, college going people caught in a sudden personal catastrophe, opting for a rash kill, admission, and unwarranted deaths.

I had heard of small town folks worshipping TV/movie stars for their characters, taking them for what they played on screen, and going bonkers about each thing they did. Something Raghu Romeoesque. But, educated people shouldn't, really.

Oh, I forgot what I was actually gonna preach. Good for you. Hmph!

On a different note, I found an apartment that pleased all my senses. It is a bit far from my office, a bit over budget, and a bit too big, but I SO loved it that I took it. I still think it is kinda bargain, you know. I mean 8,000/- for a 1200 sq ft house in Bangalore, 2 years agreement, 50k deposit, is a steal! It has 2 balconies, a washing area, awesome woodwork. My favorite are the kitchen and the dining area. The designs are almost straight out of my drawings for my own house (whenever I do build one). The locality is great. All apartments; no slums or smelly dumps; nicely ventillated. Oh, I can just go on. I have a sneaky suspicion that I got this bargain because I am a Bong. Yeah, the landlord is a Bong from Hyderabad :P Now, all I need to do is find some reliable movers and move sometime the EOM or beginning of March.

YAY!

apartment, movies
