Once upon a time

Paint a scene: one inch wide, one inch tall, one inch deep. What do you see? A smile. Sad, or pherhaps whistful. Dark lips, slightly surved in the right hand corner. Looks like there may have been lipstick, but it is faded now. Worn away. By a kiss? Tears, the salty breeze of the sea? Or maybe just time. What does it mean, then, this little picture? Missing someone, finding someone, distant memory, recent loss. So many meaning sfor such a small box. Open it wider, learn something more.

Paint a scene: one foot wide, one foot tall, one foot deep. What do you see? A face, blue sky, green leaves. The eyes are sad, pale blue, looking beyond the frame. It's an attractive face. Pale skin, delicate features. But it's too tired to be beautiful, to lined to be stunning. What caused these lines, what caused this exhaustion? Age,worry, stress, wonder. It must have been a while ago, there is resignation in that face, as well as acceptance. WHatever it is to cause those lips to urve, to cause those eyes to watch, it is not unwelcome. Not wanted, perhaps, but not unexpected. What could it be, this thing that causes such emotion. So many questions for such a small box. Open it wider, learn something more.

Pain a scene: one mile wide, one mile tall, one mile deep. What do you see? An ocean, long cliffs, deep forests, open sky. A beach, white sand, cluttered with driftwood. Some of the wood seems to have been painted. A trick of the light or remains of a once great vessel? Could this be what causes such pain in that lone figure approaching the been via a rocky path down the cliffs? The beach has been cluttered for a while, the wood near buried in sand. But there has obviously been an effort the clean it. In a small hollow, between the cliff and an old worn oak tree, a stack of wood has been made. A burial, a shrine, a memory, a reminder? What could cause a woman to work so hard at clearning an abandoned beach? So many wonders for such a small box. Open it wider, learn something more.

Paint a scene: one world wide, one world tall, one world deep. What do you see? Once upon a time
