The weather forecasts all say sunny today, but it's overcast from the smoke of many fires around the north state. I'm grateful that so far none of them are closer than 90 miles away, but you know it's bad when the smoke is evident this far away. Fingers crossed for the winds to die down at last and give the fire fighters a breather.
Meanwhile, we have a long-planned kayak trip planned for the south Yuba river, which has maybe three tiny rapids near the place where we put in and after that is pretty much a gentle canoe paddle/drift the rest of the day...there is one tiresome portage bit, but that's where we usually break for lunch anyway. The big bad on this trip is sunburn, so slathering the chemical inhibitors under my long sleeves today.
Tomorrow, off to Bakersfield again for the Father's Day visit of duty/love while B heads to San Jose to play comics with his buddies and visit his folks, who are even more aged than my father (B's father just turned 97 and isn't too interested in it). I'll go on down to San Diego to visit dear friends and hunt for books and eat at all my favorite places (El Indio! Filippi's! And dim sum lunch!) if we can fit them in, then back up through LA for a self-indulgent stop at the BPAL Will-Call on Wednesday, where I'll get a chance to sniff all the exciting new scents that pander to my obsession.
More gorgeous yarn is en route; two more pairs of socks for the family completed, and I'm on the final stretch of a lovely soft cardigan in hand-dyed wool-silk (halfway up the second sleeve...). Now contemplating birthday socks for my brother and his partner (I have till August) and B's eldest daughter (early July) from the magnificent stash tempting me away from the other projects in route.
And we finally got all the book boxes into the house and did some reorganizing in the guest/sale room so there's shelf space to empty the boxes back onto the shelves! (Since I've unpacked most of mine, these are mostly B's so i don't feel the looming responsibility of boxes on the deck now.)
Onward to the river!
