Book babble with yard highlights

I wake up many mornings thinking of things to put in my next post, then I sit down at the computer, look around at the piles of books waiting to be cataloged and input and uploaded, sigh, and get to work.

It was getting close to caught up when we were called in to look at a collection of Lewis Carroll/Alice material that needed a new home. This turns out to be in boxes and piles on our living room floor, moving a pile or two at a time into my office. I'm making a dent in the 540  books, but it's slow going.

B looks at the heaps in horror then scurries outside to work on the acreage. It's the time of year when he loves to focus on clearing brush  and poisoning the thistles and poison oak before they can fight back. he's done a valiant job of clearing down the hill a couple of hundred feet, but after that we're hip deep in manzanita and digger pines. A week ago during the damper weather, we had mass burn pile action, before it gets too late in the year to even dream about burning dead wood out in the open.

all this outdoors stuff (and a look at
stoney321's amazing front yard makeover got me away from the computer long enough today to put two new  Japanese maples into pots while I consider if athey might want to go into the ground at some point. The new icon shows the glowing Shindeshojo in all its spring glory. Come summer, I believe it's expected to go chartreuse and pink, then back to vivid pinky orange come fall. It's about 18" tall here, and it will take 10 years to get 8-10 feet high, so I've got lots of time to admire it in a pot.

In other domestic notes, I've been pigging out on yarns from Enchanted Knoll and have now completed some 4 pairs of socks and lined up another dozen or so colorways to work on when I get the urge (or finish any of the three sweaters currently on the needles). Tax returns are completed for the family except for B's elderly parents (next on the list), and next week, Ashland for five plays in four days. Yes, we do get a little dizzy.

Slowly reading my way through Swann in Love, which puts me to sleep gently after 3 or four pages, but is amazingly evocative of place, so worth the drowsiness.

Today we have lovely golden sun and a cool spring breeze...wishing you the same! Back to wrapping dust jackets so books can be shelved....
