I could get used to this...

Friday morning as I was busily processing orders for the post office, B got a call from our friends who spend a month down at the beach on Monterey Bay every winter saying the weather was gorgeous and why didn't we come down. Now.

So we did.

Here I sit in front of a dazzling view of sunlit breakers below the dunes outside the rented beach house, watching the glittering spume floating up from the surf (more earlier when the wind was up, but still). Yesterday we hit all the good used book stores in Monterey and loaded up on (yet more) stock and some light reading for us and our hosts ( Charles Todd's mystery series about the WWI shell-shocked Scotland Yard tec, Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars, and an old Hopalong Cassidy novel for B (-- didn't realize the nickname arose from the cowboy's limp...duh!) We also brought home the bacon, as it were...excellent barbecue from the small grill at the top of the Holman Highway I wonder if it's still called that?): ribs, brisket and chicken plus cornbread and cole slaw. Love that no cooking thing on vacation!

I have as well three different knitting projects with me, including the handpainted wool for B's new pullover (about 6" done on the circular needles), my winter white alpaca tunic (I think that's what it will be when I finish, anyway) and some sock yarn to try my first pair of socks. The sun is ideal light for trying out new techniques and counting stitches before it gets too dark to see what I'm doing. White is good for evening work.

B brought his bike and is out enjoying the sunshine, having already done a run on the beach this morning. I should feel lazy, but I'm just basking happily, playing with bpal orders  (the Yulies and Anniversary scents come down tomorrow) and working out third party deals for other no-longer-available goodies. And to top it off, I got to read a prologue to a new piece that
ljs is working on. What better bliss?

I hope the rest of your weekend is equally delightful. All I need now is another 6-pack of Coke.

knitting, travel, books, bpal
