Every time I think the travel has died down there's another small trip...as soon soon as we got back from Houston there was the Thanksgiving mad dash to San Jose--down and back in a day with three of B's four offspring wedged into the back of the Prius. We went on the Friday to avoid the crowds, so our own Thanksgiving dinner (if you don't count the turkey I roasted on Tuesday for leftovers) was a quiet dinner of turkey spaghetti. You can only eat so many turkey sandwiches in three days.
After ticking off B's family responsibilities, I had a whirlwind roundtrip to Bakersfield for a quick overnight to check in with my father, who at least had a lovely prime rib dinner with my brother for the Thanksgiving feast. He's fading more every time I see him. this time he was recovering from the removal of several skin cancers and is still somewhat dizzy from his recent fall wherein he knocked at head-sized hole in the plaster wall of his bedroom. Surprisingly, no blood or broken bones, but he won't accept that the dizziness is a function of his erratic blood pressure and maybe he should sit down when he wants to pull off a t-shirt.
Sunny, clear, cold and we are so grateful for the extra firewood and the efficient stove insert. The open fireplace is prettier, but this is so much warmer as well as burning the particulates more completely. I spent last weekend glued to the fireside with my complicated knitting patterns...I think I ended up with more rows completed than ripped out, but it was close.
No more trips until February. I think.
