Thermal cookers

I thought I'd share one of my favourite moar_skills kitchen appliances.

It's a thermal cooker. I have two, and I LOVE them!

Basically, it works similar to a crock pot but on the basis of retained heat cooking. This means that you don't have to plug it in and have it turned on all day (which makes me paranoid when I have to go to work and leave it alone).

You put the pot on the stove and heat it to boiling for a certain amount of time, then you put this in the insulated outer pot, close it up and however many hours later, your dinner is ready! I love this because it's energy efficient and safe, and very effective. I made some soup overnight once, and on opening the pot in the morning it was still steaming hot - I couldn't believe it!

Plus it would be awesomely useful for pot lucks and picnics outdoors where you don't have a power outlet for the traditional crock pot.

More info and recipes here (I made a community for it, but it's kind of deaded)

I just think they are brilliant :)

I also just posted to my thermal cooking blog a little about cooking with a thermos, which works on exactly the same principles, just a much smaller scale. Great if you're just cooking for one :)
