It was a solemn day today... a national holiday in Spain for the Virgen de Pilar. I don't know anything about it, just that I didn't have class today. I had planned to be productive, but in an almost well-planned solemn fashion, it rained. So, I didn't get too much accomplished.
I did, however, go to the World Press Photo 2005 exhibition at the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona). It's this major photojournalism exhibition that travels to 80 cities in 40 countries and presents the best photos of the previous year. There were photos from across the world, documenting the main events and tragedies of 2004, as well as the everyday lives of people from all walks of life. It was really interesting, intense, and quite moving. I almost cried like three times. Looking at some of the photos and reading the descriptions, I could feel my face contort, and I had to grab my neck as I tried to hold back tears. It really made me think about how powerful photojournalism is, and how you can say so much with just a picture. I truly enjoyed it.
