I am Mercy.
Today is the beginning of the biggest festival in Barcelona - La Merce. The Virgin of Mercy is the patron of Barcelona, and this festival is a four day party in her honor. The days are filled with parades, free concerts, fire-breathing dragons, human towers, free meals, and obviously, drinking! I am so excited, I can't wait.
Carol and I were walking back from the beach and decided to stop off at a little falafel joint near our apartment. We suddenly heard drums and chanting, so we walk out on the street, and we see a parade of people dressed as dragons, others bearing torches, and these huuuge statue-like people that towered over the crowd. They proceeded down to a plaza where an orchestra played while the statues danced with one another. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I feel like a little kid again!
