As you might have figured out, I am obsessed with the oboe. So I'm going to start putting weekly oboe rants, where I ramble on about things related to oboes, English Horns, oboe players I know, the satanic nature of reeds, etc. Here's the first.
The Mozart Concerto is one of the foremost pieces of literature in the oboe repertoire. I hate it. Everyone plays it, and it really gets on my nerves. As Carly would put it, it's like the neverending Riverdance of Satan.
Why do bad oboe players play English horn? Do they think that they'll sound any better on English horn than they do on oboe? The only thing that they acheive is a noise akin to that of a dying cow.
I went to order oboe music the other day from Forrests' Music. Music is SO expensive! $44 for the Vade Mecum! Back in the day (when Mr. Hopper was younger, ie a LOOONG time ago) it was about $5. Stupid greedy music publishers.
Ellen is playing the oboe now. She is taking from a lady in Gulf Shores named Donna Day. She says that she knows Mr. Hopper, so that's a good thing. I'll have to ask Mr. Hopper about her. Ellen is coming along quite well on oboe.
Wow, 2 journal entries in one day. A record, for sure.
