BART was a mess this morning... CULTURE SHOCK

Oct 10, 2008 09:54

The Transbay Tube was closed due to a "track side fire." Sounds lovely and warm. Anyway, the stations were packed, the trains were packed. I had to change trains because it changed directions after we boarded. As I am still in the habit of doing, lets compare this to Boston, shall we:

Boston in same situation: People are shoving each other, crumbling and complaining, and in many cases fighting or at least yelling at each other. The commute is more Hellish then normal. No one really knows what is happening because there are either no announcements or you can't hear them in the train cars/stations. When trains do arrive its a free for all to get on.

San Francisco: People are frustrated but they smile. They share stories and joke as the BART employees updated us every couple of minutes on status. Instead of, "...the f*#king train is finally moving..." the people here clap, laugh and go back to communicating with each other in a pleasant manner. We get to our stop and everyone is saying good morning and have a nice day and other pleasantries. I thought some of them were actually going to hug! People assist others in getting on and off the train and say excuse me and thank you.

And why haven't I lived here all my life!!!!!
