Character: Yosuke Hanamura
Fandom: Persona 4
Character Notes:
History: Yosuke Hanamura grew up most of his life in the city, making him a city boy at heart, who loves keeping himself busy and finding things to do all the time. He had a wonderful time there, enjoying everything and all the friends he had made.

However, a year prior to the arrival of the Protagonist, Souji Seta, Yosuke and his family moved to Yasoinaba, a quiet country town that was pretty much the exact opposite of the life he was used to living. It was there that his parents set up Junes, and he reluctantly came to be known as the “Junes kid.”

When Seta arrives, we first meet Yosuke as he crashes his bike into a nearby pole, grimacing in pain. However, we don't get our first formal introduction until a few days later, when he manages to run his bike into a garbage pile and get his head stuck in a trash can. He befriends the Protagonist and offers him a ride to school, saying the bike is still trustworthy. From there, the two build a close relationship.

Soon after, mysterious murders start happening in Inaba, first with an announcer, Mayumi Yamano, and then with one of Yosuke's crushes, Saki Konishi. For him, it hits Yosuke pretty hard, and he wants to go find out exactly how she had died, and why. After discovering that Souji can travel into a TV, and falling in there by accident with him and Chie, he and Seta decide to brave the TV world again, in order to see if that's where Saki-senpai died. Upon approaching the recreation of the supposed store her family owned, Yosuke heard the real thoughts of Saki, and they were very disheartening.

To top everything off, Yosuke is confronted by his alternate self, his Shadow. The Shadow pretty much exclaims that Inaba was a shithole that bored him to pieces, and that this murder case was finally a reason for him to have some fun and not be so goddamn tired of everything here. He got the chance to look cool and act brave, screw Saki-senpai's death- he wanted to be a hero and save the day. This was more than enough reason to check out an alternate world.

Yosuke, of course, denies that he feels that way, and claims the Shadow isn't him. This causes the Shadow to go berserk, and go into its real form, and tries to kill him. Luckily Souji is there to help, and easily defeats the Shadow. Yosuke soon realizes that even though he doesn't want to admit it, that is a part of him and how he feels, ever since he moved to Inaba. He accepts his Shadow, and it turns into Jiraiya, his Persona. From there, Souji and Yosuke make it back to their world safely, and agree that they need to solve the mystery, since the police would never believe them, nor have a clue about anything otherwise.

From there, various people join the team, through either following them along into the TV world or being kidnapped and then being rescued. Chie Satonaka, Yukiko Amagi, Kanji Tatsumi, Rise Kujikawa, Teddie, and Naoto Shirogane all join the investigation team and gain Personas of their own, vowing to work together and track down the killer.

After Rise and Teddie getting their own Personas, and rescuing Rise from the TV world, another murder occurs in Inaba, just like the first two. However, this one seems out of place, the investigation team having ruled that those who were on TV were the next victims. Following the death of Mr. Mooroka, all of the members are questioned by the police, and more specifically, Naoto Shiragane, who goes by the “Detective Prince”. Having talked with him, the group is still confused as to why someone died, since they had prevented the Midnight Channel from going after Rise.

A few days later, they run across news of the possible killer having escaped into the TV, and they chase after him. From there, they learn that he was the supposed one who killed all three, and his name is Mitsuo Kubo. He denies his Shadow when he comes across it, and they fight that and rescue him from the TV world, getting him to confess about his involvement in all three murders.

From there, Naoto is kidnapped and joins the party as well, revealing that he is infact, a female, and that the case in itself is still far from over. Without many clues to go by, the group is still thankful that they have who they do.

Of course, shit just hits the fan when Dojima accuses Souji of being behind the murders, and starts interrogating him at the station. During this, Nanako is kidnapped, and the group chases down the kidnapper before he and Nanako escape into the TV world. Dojima asks them to save her, and find the one who's behind this.

The group rushes to save Nanako, confronting the kidnapper in the TV world and saving her. The kidnapper turns out to be a Taro Namatame, a man who had an affair with Mayumi Yamano, and he believes that by throwing people into the TV world saves them, once he sees them on the Midnight Channel. Both are rescued and taken to the Inaba hospital.

From there, the group works together to find that despite having involvement in the kidnappings, Namatame does not have a proper motive to have carried out the first two murders, and the rest still doesn't make sense. When it's worked out, the investigation team finds the answer in Dojima's assistant, Tohru Adachi, and they chase after him.

When they confront him, Adachi is already in the TV world, and comepletlry lost it. He claims he did all those murders for fun. To bring something exciting to Inaba, because he was bored and found he could go into the TV. Having the world be overrun with Shadows sounds like a great idea to him, because it would be fun and interesting. Of course, the team is mortified behind his pathetic reasoning for killing innocent people, and fights him and his Shadow, ending the conflict once and for all.

Or, so it seems.

But upon his defeat, Adachi's body is possessed by a god named Ameno-Sagiri, who claims that he will cover the world in fog, and allow Shadows to take over, because that is what man desires: to hide from the truth and live a lie. The group claims this isn't true, and fights Ameno to prevent him from ending humanity as it is. Ameno departs after being defeated, saying that he will always be watching and take over the world again with the fog, and that man will come to appreciate what he so wants and represses.

Having defeated him, the group returns to the real world, dragging along Adachi to have him be taken in by the police. The case apparently solved, everything goes back to normal, and the group bids Souji farewell when he leaves for the city again.

However, if the player chooses to continue, the group meets again, to discuss the case, and officially closing it. Souji runs across the petrol station attendant, whom he met in the beginning, and they reveal themselves to be the goddess Izanami. Izanami is the one behind the Midnight Channel, and plans to shroud the world in fog, and merge the TV world with the real one, therefore causing chaos and destruction everywhere. The group fights her, and is almost defeated until Souji's Persona changes, reflecting on the strong bonds he has with everyone. With this new Persona, he defeats Izanami, and saves the world and everyone from being turned into Shadows. The TV world is restored to it's original form, and things go back to normal.

The next day, Souji goes home, bidding farewell to his new group of friends, and vowing that he'll never forget them, and stay in contact with them wherever he goes.

Personality: First and foremost: Yosuke is the comic relief of the story, be it through physical means (i.e. riding his bike and getting his head stuck in a trash can), or just by trying to joke. Whether it's by making himself look like an idiot or just trying to support someone, he's there for his friends through thick and thin, and extremely loyal once he knows someone well enough. He's clumsy, awkward, and doesn't always think before speaking- which usually gets him into bickering arguments or disputes between him and other party members.

He's a leader and a follower, moreso a follower in his actions than in his words. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and most of his reactions are left out in the open for everyone to see. If he's angry, he yells and gestures wildly. If he's upset, he speaks quietly and is a lot more reserved and withdrawn. It's never to hard to tell what he's feeling at one point in time.

Throughout all this, he's very good at keeping secrets, and hiding behind a specific face. He has issues that he never wants people to see, and so he hides behind a smile and pretends to laugh it off as a result, like he doesn't have a care in the world. But the truth is, a part of him is lonely, and misses the life he had back in the city. He calls himself a "city boy at heart," and says he'll always be one, despite his new life in Inaba.

Yosuke is also smart, but he trusts his gut in most situations, rather than thinking logically. This can usually backfire if Souji or another friend isn't with him. He's a team worker who is reliable and very worth having, and his optimism in battle is essential. He's both a healer and a damage dealer, so he works both ways in supporting the party.

Yosuke can also be described as much like any other teenage boy. Perverted, saying dirty jokes, or conning girls into wearing bathing suits, it's all part of who he is. Of course, most of it is in good humor- he would never do something like that to someone he doesn't know, and he also has a terrible case of homophobia. Going after Kanji and trying to spend a night with him in a tent proved that he just doesn't roll that way with guys, among other things, and he's a bit nervous around others who act that way.

Overall, he's a kid with a good heart, as the city life taught him how to have fun, but once he came to Inaba, things became boring for him. In the back of his mind, he's always wanted to play the hero, because he was so tired of not having to do anything but live day in and day out with nothing to do. Confronting his Shadow on this makes him realize just how important it is to find out who he is inside, and that denying the part of him that makes him himself, as much as he doesn't want to admit it, and is important in this discovery. As he builds his relationship with Souji, he even admits to being jealous of him, and asks Seta to punch him, to make things even.
