Simon R. Green - Shadows Fall

OK mshades, this one's for you...

After many years of hearing you recommend this book, I finally, actually, managed to get my hands on a copy. Anyway, I will try not to go into specifics, but in case people don't want any obscure hints....

I enjoyed this book greatly, up until the last two pages. Then I wasn't sure what to think. Normally, when I see an ending like this I would say it's a cop out, but I can most definitively say, for this book, that is not the case. The author had a concept in mind... a place he wanted to get to, and he got there admirably, and I respect that.

On the other hand, I feel in doing so, he stole something from the characters... lessened them and their sacrifice. Made everything they did mean less.

I don't know if I am explaining myself correctly while trying to keep my references obscure, and no matter what, I want people to know that I do highly recommend this book. I just haven't decided how I feel about it. And that is a good thing. (I am vaguely reminded of my feelings after seeing "Mulholland Drive")

Anyway, for anyone who has read it, especially mshades, get back to me on this. No one in the area that I know has read this, and I'm looking for someone to bounce opinions off of. It is bugging me so much, I actually had to post... be afraid. Be very afraid.
