Will LJ let me post my theraputic vent this time?

As I write this I'm catching up on the WSOP Day 5 from Saturday and the commentators are Lon McEachern, Norman Chad!!, and - the brat himself - Phil Hellmuth. I'm beyond delighted. Although Phil looks a little too clean-cut and it's freaking me out.

Today was an adventurous day that I was not prepared for, nor did I particularly enjoy it. I woke up and my phone was off. Um....okay, I don't remember turning it off, but I'll turn it on and plug it in and go shower to begin my day. On my way to the gym, I take out my phone to check the CTA app to see how long I have to wait for my train. My phone is, again, off. Grr. Well, there's a verizon near my gym, so I'll just head over there afterwards.

STORE #1
After my trainer kicks my butt, I go to the nearby verizon store. The guy fiddles with it for awhile and says, that a) he doesn't know what's wrong with it, b) that particular site doesn't have a tech dept. for diagnostics, and c) that store doesn't have my battery so he can exchange it and see if that's the problem. He lists several stores in the Chicago area - none of them relatively close - which have techs.

I go home and wash the sweat from the gym and the insufferable sun off my skin and head downtown.

STORE #2
Miss a bus by a block, so after waiting 20 minutes for another one and a nice, air-conditioned ride, I arrive at the verizon store on Michigan (one of the stores on the list the last guy rattled off, and one I knew the location of, as I pass it every time I go into Shakes). Same story - no idea what's wrong, no tech services dept. (blarg) and no battery to replace mine with. What stores actually have tech diagnostics? Halstad off North. Great.

STORE #3
North and Halstad, across from the apple store. Diagnostics dept! Finally! Must re-boot, they'll store my contacts, and I won't lose my pictures, but I'll have to download all my apps again. Okay, fine, if rebooting will get it working again, fine with me. 5 minutes to reboot, feels like 20. Have to re-sync with my gmail account. Great. I only created my gmail account to be able to use my phone in the first place, and I have no idea which password I used. I barely guessed what my gmail address was, then had to use one of the computers they had there to reset my password, blah blah blah. So my phone is rebooted, but they've been using their "house battery" the whole time (I don't know what they call it, but it was their battery, I couldn't buy it), and when they put my battery back in, it wouldn't work again. So my battery is officially diagnosed as fried. Looking back at what it used to look like, it even appears fried. They don't have my battery on-site, but they can order one and have it shipped to me. Fine. 2 minutes later - verizon doesn't stock that battery anymore. wha-WHAT!?? WHY? Because of the new Motorola Droid 3. They only stock batteries for the newest model and even though the battery for the original Droid (what I have) and Droid 2 are compatible with each other, the battery for the Droid 3 is not compatible with either of the other phones. But, the guy says, it seems the other line on this plan is eligible for an upgrade. So I could call my dad, and presuming I could get a hold of him, he could transfer his upgrade eligibility to my phone. Then I could get the Droid 3 for the discounted price of $220 (it would be $199, but the phone is actually too new for that price...whatever that means) Okay. So is there somewhere I can get a new battery that actually fits my phone? Well, I can google it. I'll let that sink in. I CAN GOOGLE IT. This guy doesn't give me a list of reputable vendors in the city or online, no. I CAN GOOGLE IT. Seriously? I guess I'll go home and GOOGLE it then.

BACK HOME
I google it. Amazon.com has them available new and used starting at $3. Reviewers say, order through amazon directly and not a third party. Okay. So I get the $22 battery through amazon, plus the extra $10 to get it here by Wednesday. Adventure over. Oh, and if my phone had been working, I could have met my cousins, Keith and Alex (or was it Keith and his girlfriend Annie? All I got was a K&A) for lunch because they were in the city today. Nothing can make me so rageful like seriously broken technology.

Thank goodness for the poker brat. Although I'm sad to see Daniel Negreanu get knocked out.
