...and voilà feet in flipflops here in Lebanon.

A little factoid, apropos of flipflops in Lebanon and the way people view others: I can wear flipflops and not be judged because I am white. My Haitan American friend, S, will not wear flipflops in public because many Lebanese treat her like she is "help" because of her skin color (and flipflops are poor people's shoes). A very unpleasant side to life in Lebanon is the live-in help culture. Some day I will try to take a photo of the "maid's room" in our flat and talk about this, to me, shameful part of how the 'rich' live here. But this is a happy post and not the place for it.
