I took my car into the Saturn dealership for a diagnostic code pull last night (part of the ongoing why-the-hell-is-my-car’s-AC-not-working saga) and it looks like the main computer is fine, and it’s probably cracked wires in the wiring harness.
The fun part is that the AC worked fine before my accident this winter, in fact I had a leak repaired and the system recharged last year and have the paperwork to prove it- so this is most likely
accident damage and should be picked up by the insurance company. With any luck they will cover part or all of the charges… here’s hoping.
Not as thrilled about having to use the dealership, but they know more about the Saturn electricals than my local mech, so this may be a case where paying for the experience may work in my favor. I’ve been utterly miserable without the AC, and Ethan agreed that we need it fixed soon before I melt into a small itchy puddle on one of my commutes home.

The mechanic has discovered the issue is indeed the computer- but because I went to the dealership, they have to replace this (including labor) under the tail end of an obscure core-electronics warranty! So all the AC leak repairs and recharging etc will cost at most $400, so if the insurance doesn't pick it up it's not too terrible. I am exceedingly pleased with this.
