hat update and poll

Oct 11, 2006 12:39

It was a stitch-and-bitch day at work yesterday, so the hat got to come to the land of digital cameras...Update time!

I'm past the point on the hat where I ripped out...which is a relief. I've finally joined the last ball of wool onto the knitting, passed the knitting through itself to form the intersection, and am ready to begin the inner hat increase.

The full-length shot:

In its final contortion:

Question for Dan: to twist or not to twist the tube through the intersection point? Here's two pictures, the tissue paper under the tube is just for contrast.

Untwisted:

Twisted:

The twist would add extra bulk on the one side of the hat, where the untwisted would let the hat sit flatter to the head. I think it looks a bit funkier with the twist, and it really doesn't affect the hat construction until I need to start the final graft.

I'm thinking if I'm a good knitter this weekend, I will have this done in time to give it to Dan on Game Day on 10/28! This means I can start Ethan's glittens and all the Dulaan Project knitting I've committed to. The Dulaan project is a charity project devoted to producing warm items for homeless people in Mongolia. Click here for more info.

In other news, Ethan has a honker of a cold. I'm loading zinc to try to avoid it, but who knows if I'll succeed or not. It's making him generally cranky. In addition, he has three tests next week, and the prep for that is also making him cranky. The sudden drop in the temperature and the intermittant snow is making me cranky today. We're a really fun couple right now. :P
