We are just past American Thanksgiving. Kira had a fever and odd-looking rash on the eve, so we opted to avoid contacting all the relatives and had a sedate holiday dinner at home. I didn't mind, because we were hoping to catch the reheat-repeat party at my sister's on Saturday, so I'd not miss all the relatives. It's a chance to share leftovers and new desserts and play board games with the family, and I was excited for it because Kira's finally old enough to actually play games with some level of involvement... because ADHD and all that.
Well, we got there, and Gracie started to tutor us through a new game, and watching Ethan's face fall as he got lost in the instructions was heartbreaking. I shepherded him and Kira through the event, and got us home earlier claiming Kira's bedtime... but dammit.
We've not tried to do an event like this since the accident.
Ethan doesn't have the intellectual flexibility to learn games the way he did before.
He was obviously frustrated with the experience, and when I tried to push him to games I knew that he knew already he refused. a.k.a. sulking.
I'm gutted that he's taking it so hard. We can't enjoy learning new games together anymore, I guess.
