JK mentioned the importance of 'Why did Albus Dumbledore have James Potter's cloak?'
Feel free to help me and correct me where I'm wrong. :)
1. Why would James want to hide the cloak? Would people come to Godric's Hollow to look for it? Is it an important artefact, like a possible Horcrux? (Then why didn't Albus destroy it instead of giving it to

Why do you think that anyone is looking for the cloak? Really they are extremely rare so I don't think the DD would want to destroy it.
I can answer the "who was there at the Potters that night." I have just made a theory that is a strong possiblility. It also gives possible answers "how DD knew to send Hagrid when the potter's were attacked by Voldemort." Also it could explain Yep all in one go, in one theory. I have it up on my LJ here. You must have missed it. I rebumped it to a newer date for you. But a warning... it's very longwinded. You know me. LOL But the main stuff is at the beginning. I only added more comments at the bottom to help relate my ideas. And then also to tell you it definately is Quibblerworthy. But I think it has a possibility too.
Oh and DD did not know that Peter was the secret keeper. Remember he told the ministry that it was Sirius. That is why they went after Sirius in the first place. I think.... *headscratch*
About the secret keeper, I have a problem trying to figure out what Rowling means when she said "at the last moment " Sirius decided to talk the potter's to switch and make Peter the secret keeper instead. They had a secret keeper for about a week before the attack. All the time, I always read it to mean that Sirius was the secret keeper up until just that night when "at that last moment" they made the switch. It was recently brought to my attention that Sirius was never made the secret keeper at all. That the decision to make the switch was made "at the last moment" when the Potter's were about to make sirius the secret keeper. I'm not sure if I'm convinced. It sounds right both ways. OOoo this is so frusterating. It's all about the wording and how she meant it.
Still, if my friends are right, that Sirius was never the secret keeper, then why did Wormtail wait a week to tell voldemort where the potter's are? OR if he went and told Voldemort right away, why did Voldemort wait a week to attack the Potters?
Really Rowling said: "Why did Dumbledore have James' invisibilty cloak at the time of James' death, given that Dumbledore could make himself invisable without a cloak?"
I think the main thing she was bringing up, was the fact that DD did not need it, why did he have it then? I really believe that James lent it to DD for the Order to be able to use it. My question here is, what they needed it to spy on? or Where were they sneaking into to do? As you said Moody had two..... or he did by the time book 5 came out?
You came up with an excellent question... why didn't Black know that Snape was in the order back then? He might have but we were not told yet in the book. Maybe it gave too much away to the readers, so JKR just didn't have Sirius say anything to Harry.
The only way for snape to be able to keep an eye on the potter's at Godric's Hollow, were if he was told the secret right? That is another thing I have not thought about. But that would also go for any other people, who might have been there in person. But you are not the only person to wonder if Snape was there... I really don't think he was. But then some people also wonder if Wormtail was there for some reason. To me, I ask why would there be a need for any real person to be there with Voldemort? That is why I came up with my theory. It also explains why no one was able to assist to get Harry out of the house afterwards. Unless it was a DE? Hmm???? Still they would have to know the secret.

I think that "at the last moment" meant that very night. It has to be. LOL OK I'm going crazy here. LOL!

Thanks for bumping it though, I'll have a look as soon as I have more time. :)

Oh and to let you know. I'm always cannon. I too get confused when people start making up their own stuff and not have any real strong source from the books themselves. My theories all have many book quotes as well as quotes from JKR herself. (I won't even use things that were from the movies. To me they stray too much away from what the books have in them.) I give page numbers from each book quote, and dates and names of each interview. For me it's all about wording. People can read something and if they put it in their own words and not use JKR's words, two people will see different things. I want to only go by what she had written. No one else.
This one theory, that I had just mentioned, the one that answers the questions:
~ Who was there at the Potter's that night besides Harry, Lily James, and Voldemort?
~ Why DD trusts Snape?
~ How DD knew to send Hagrid to the Potter's when he did?
I think there was a few more..*headscratch*
Now-a-days, I always use word for word quotes. I have at least 10 word for word quotes from the sources I just mentioned. I don't just give assumptions, guesses on my LJ entries without having back up proof..... well, at least I'm doing this with my more recent theories. I didn't back up my earlier ones. *rolleyes*
The only thing is that I mention page numbers from the american HP books. I don't know english publishers page numbers. I know I need to do better about giving chapter numbers to help those with other publishers. I also, actually type in the actual quote and not just the page number. That's why my theories all look to be so long winded. I don't just tell people to just go look it up. I have it right there for them.
I kind of wondered why you asked these book questions when you did not comment to ask them on my LJ it's self. So .... um... you are not reading them? Well....I know it's so much to read. I really don't think anyone on my friends list is reading them either, so you would not be the only one. I get so much more comments on them when I post them at the WB site. These people know the books like the back of their hand. LOL. They are so open and don't waste any time to tell me if I have messed up on this part of my theories or if they have something else to further proove what I'm saying. It's really great there. They are so honest. Oh well, I'm getting long winded again.
Oh and I see we are doing or did the same thing. I too wanted to form my own theories without any influence from other peoples ideas. It really worked out better that way for me. I came up with ideas, that no one else did. Things that everyone else missed, because they were so busy discussing them with others that they didn't see everything. I wish you happy reading. I can't wait to see what theories you come up with when you are ready. :D
