What a fantastic weekend (and it's not even over yet).
sir_prise came to visit on Thursday night. On Friday after my classes were done, we went around stalking people. We found Kannan in his dorm room surrounded by friends. He was playing the guitar and facing the hallway. The stunned look on his face when he saw us was absolutely priceless. We tried visiting Ben and Sam, but neither of them were there. We tried
irisintherain's dorm building next. We were still plotting a way to sneak up to her room when she happened to walk into the lobby. She hadn't seen us, so we snuck up behind her and surprised her. The three of us chatted for a bit and then ate dinner at an Italian cafe called Za's.
After applying satisfactory amounts of eyeliner and dark lipstick,
sir_prise and I made our way over to Assembly Hall for the Nine Inch Nails concert. The people at the concert looked so interesting that I wanted to meet everyone there. There's a distinct lack of strange people at U of I, and I felt like I was at home among the audience members.
Moving Units (the opening band) was pretty good. The lead singer admitted that he was sick and apologized for not being able to sing well. He was oddly adorable. Nine Inch Nails was absolutely amazing. It was by far the best show I have ever seen. They opened with Mr. Self Destruct, and the lighting effects made me think of what the gorgeous factory on Route 55 would look like if it were exploding. Part of what I enjoy most about concerts is the complete sensory overload - the deafening music, the seizure-inducing lights, the vibrations from the sound, and not being able to feel my legs after dancing for hours on end.
There must have been something in the air that night, because Trent Reznor said he felt funny and had thrown up between sets. He also said that U of I was the first show on their tour. How cool is that? During the middle of the show, the band played while a screen in front of them showed images of various bugs (including bees, which made me laugh. It reminded me of Devi).
After the concert,
sir_prise and I went to bubble tea with Annie and Jen. We were so giddy from the concert afterglow that people thought we were drunk.
On Saturday,
sir_prise and I were successful in stalking Ben and Sam. My new roommate also moved in, and she seems really nice. After dinner I went to see Rent, which I found thoroughly enjoyable.
I'm planning on coming home on the 17th, but first I have to make it through this week. I have three midterms (two of them are on the same day), a lab, two short papers, and I'm also starting to work as a research assistant for a psych lab.
