More new writing

Here's the latest product of my efforts to improve my output. This is in response to a prompt in a writing book to write a poem in the voice of someone ten years younger.

Ten

Don't want to go in,
Though it's raining and the
Violets that I've bound together
With grey twigs and dandelions
Are drooping in the wet.
Let someone else
Worry about the weather.
I'm a princess just now,
Rain adding dazzle to my crown
of buttercups and new, pale leaves,
from the oak thrusting through our hedge.
My dolls bow down before me,
Pink and quiet, damp and disheveled
More leaves making their mantles.
I don't want to go in,
but there will be other days for royalty
Before the spring turns,
and summer burns the violets from their shade.
For now, there are cheese sandwiches
waiting inside
And a glass of milk to follow.
