I want to say Billy Budd by Melville, which is utterly detestable, but +Lily Alice already beat me to the punch. So I'll supplement that with something I was forced to read for another class and which made me want to vomit almost as much as "I prefer not."
Religious drivel about a Catholic saint whose chapters vacillate between "God is awesome" and "I sinned and it was awesome" and "God forgive me for sinning."
