In this case: "Comment to this post and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary ( Read more... )

I could use an excuse to rant, so seven things to write about might be fun.

Your description of choice making in LARPs makes me think you might enjoy Venezia. The idea of making choices that significantly impact much of your LARP is what the structure of the LARP is based around. (Every character gets two major choice points, each of which leads to new character sheets for the next Act of the LARP.)

Well, I'm playing in it at Festival. Still need to figure out what I'm wearing. (um. Italian Renn? To be fair, I don't have that much of that so tend to reuse the same outfits).

Ideally, the choice points would actually be roleplaying-wise rather than mechanical (eg, player X has a big and meaningful choice that is going to impact not only her game but also the games of Player Y and player Z, both of whom have their own choices to make (and not all choices would be apparent at game start). The primary idea is really player agency -- the player must be able to make choices that substantially affect the game, and those choices should be more than optimmization/guesswork where there is a better and a worse choice, but should instead be creative choices emerging from the character.
