So far its been uneventful in the navy. Today was a good day, besides the massive hangover from the night before...i hate military police! I participated in a cerimony honoring a fellow Corpsman in presenting him a Bronze Star for his heroism in the sand box during our efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The HM3 lost his leg when a humvee blew up and pinned his leg in. He then proceded to coordenate the marines he was with to put the turiquet on his leg. After that he then went to help his XO in a life-saving procedure to help stop heavy bleeding from a major artery, while experincing horrible pain. As I stood at attention in my PSI formation, I heard him talk about how he could have just had the medal mailed to him back home and he didnt deserve all the credit; its just what Corpsman do. After I heard that i realized thats what im about to get ready for...to do what Corpsman do. It sends a chill down my bones when i think of the intense physical training and the academics we Corpsman have to study for during FMSS(Field Medical Service School). But we have to do this. We will be sent to learn under the best of the best Hospital Corpsman and Marine Seargents, Staff Seargents and Gunery Seargents the Navy can send us out here in Pendleton. And we'll have to be ready, because those marines rely on us to do the shit so they can shoot at shit. Then being deployed is going to be a whole nother chill all together. It'll be kool though. The worst they can do is kill you. Hopefully the hangover tomorrow wont be as bad as the one from today.
The End
