Of course, a 300x100 canvas in which to place your icon on. Icons always remain at the top. NO MATTER WHAT. this keeps any changes made to the banner away from the icon and keeps you from editing the icon.
I found
this base on Aethereality and I resized it to the size of the banner. This banner will measure your sizing, resources, and reusing icon strategies.
Duplicate the layer and make it to Screen 46%. [screen makes it lighter]
Now duplicate the base layer again and put it on Hard Light 75%. [hard light bolds the lines]
Now take the duplicate the icon and crop the lacey part. Delete everything except the lacey part on the duplicated layer. Flip Horizontal and align with the side of the icon.
New layer. Select the entire canvas and Stroke (Edit>Stroke) with #FFFFFF at 3 px and then stroke again with #E2DADA at 1px.
Now you gotta add text where it's needed. For this I used Garamond since it's simple with color #F83491.
New layer. It's hard to read the pink text, so I put a white border around it by selecting the outline of the text. I did this by Ctrl+click on text layers and Stroked each one of them. [some of the newer photoshops do not have this feature.]
You're done!
THIS TYPE OF BANNER MAKING IS GOOD FOR: People who like doing image banners and icons that are able to crop things out.
