Not Frightened Away

Melora knew she'd be in nine kinds of trouble if her mother found out, but… she was curious, and Mother wasn't willing to answer any questions about this, and it was past time she knew. She hadn't even been allowed to attend the classes at school! And she was fifteen, for heaven's sake.

She pushed the door open carefully, listening for the telltale sound of mother humming as she cooked supper in the kitchen, then waved Jimmy in, putting her finger to her lips and pointing him to the foot of the stairs.

"Mother?" She walked through the living room and reached for the fruit bowl on the counter, picking up a banana. "Hi. You need help?"

As expected, her mother preferred to prepare the food herself (and it was going to be a while), so Melora got some cottage cheese out of the fridge also, and told her she'd be up in her room studying health.

Well, it was sort of true.

She stepped in time with Jimmy so it wouldn't sound like two people going up, and closed the door of her room, then sat down on her little footstool by her bed. She looked up. "Well?" She was barely whispering.

"You sure?"

She shrugged. They'd been friends since they were six and four at the park. She was sure. "I have to learn somewhere!"

Jimmy grinned and unzipped his jeans, and Melora leaned forward, interested to get a look. "It smells like, um. Like something. What do I do?"

Jimmy picked up the banana from where she'd set it on the dresser and peeled it halfway, then gave it a lick and sucked half of it into his mouth. "See? Easy."

Melora took his …all the words she knew were too clinical or too crude. Fine. His penis. Took his penis in her hand and licked it.

He exhaled sharply and she looked up, but he didn't seem upset, so she did it again and again, trying to suck the way he's demonstrated on the banana.

She was pretty sure he was liking it, and she was… well, it was interesting. But then he stepped back. "Melora, just. Stop."

"Why?"

"I'm. Just, I'm about to uh."

"Go ahead, then," she said.

"You don't want me to in your mouth. I mean, not the first time."

"But you can't want to stop. You should, uh."

He blinked. "You want me to finish it myself?"

"Can you?"

"Of course I can. I mean, now? Here?"

"Can I watch?"

He groaned and backed up, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Uh." Then he shrugged. "Okay."

And here was where things went all weird. He was rubbing, and making faces and biting his lip, and then, he just… shot stuff out. And Melora jumped and squealed. Loud.

She clapped her hand over her mouth, but a moment later, there was mother calling as footsteps came up the stairs. "Melora?"

She gestured wildly for Jimmy to get between the bed and the wall, and picked up her dish. "I'm fine!"

"What happened?"

She checked to make sure Jimmy was out of sight and picked up her health book, randomly open to a page on teenagers and depression just as Mother opened the door. "Uh. Nothing. It was a …spider. I was just sitting here eating my cottage cheese, and a spider crawled on my hand."

"Where did it go?"

"And I screamed and went like that." She waved her free hand wildly. "And it went flying. I don't know."

Mother frowned. "You left your banana on the dresser."

"Oh! I, er. I started to eat it and forgot I set it down." She picked it up and took a bite. "Mmm. Good."

"This is why I don't like when you eat up here, Melora."

"Sorry. I'll be sure and bring down the peel. And the bowl. And everything. After I finish up my studying."

Mother harrumphed, but turned and went out and down the stairs, and Melora let out a breath. She waited until she heard her go all the way down the stairs, then whispered, "You can come out."

Jimmy stood up, flushed, and fastened up his jeans. "Next time we are so doing this at my house."

"Next time?"

"Yep. Your turn."

"I don't--"

"This was only the first in a series." He went to the window and quietly pushed up the lower pane. "Bye."

Melora grinned and waved as he climbed out into the tree, then closed her book and finished her banana.
