Unsplash As I started to write my great success that was
Yeets and tell you how I did the amazing thing of getting a little Microblogging thing on my actual blog (because fuck you that’s why), I was celebrating my success at it posting correctly over to Mastodon and Tumblr.
Turns out, it was Jetpack all along and the other deliveries of the great yeets were, in fact, churned hard by the bot reposting it. SAD FACE BECAUSE I’M OUT OF FREE SHARES.
Thankfully I had the foresight to switch off the LJ Crossposter for this activity, which I really should be doing anyways when I’m injecting shit via the API, plus I can be a little more concious when I do actively post to LJ and Dreamwidth using the crossposter to at least pick different user icons and LJ cut that shit down. Not much I can do about the header image though, soz, the site aesthetic comes first in the whole self platform concept.
Part of this process was also looking to use The WP / Jetpack app Stories feature, possibly find out if I can successfully port that over to
Pixelfed (gonna try that later today). The sane reasoning for this is of course I want to hold on to my own data, have everything de-platformed on to oh.mg as the base, and from here start distributing things out through the social networks.
The current setup is that I do most of my microblogging off of
micro.blog, which then saves a copy to
mmn.on.ca, and works from there to drop a copy over on
Mastodon,
Bluesky,
Tumblr, and
Nostr. When it is at $SOCIAL_NETWORK I can then of course interact with the people on that platform, so a kind of cyborg setup instead of basically being a full on bot.
How I am feeding the Yeets (I literally couldn’t think of a better category name, because I am just yeeting my random ass thoughts here) using Delta Chat to send the update to the
IFTTT bot, which does the WP call out, and from there Micro.blog picks up the feed, and you get the idea how this ends (spoiler : poorly).
This is something I’m going to play around with a bit more, I might actually go full on and see if I can set up a
Delta Chat Simplebot to then fork the message correctly formatted to the respective platform. Am I that good at the coding, probably not. Am I going to try it anyways ? You bet I ain’t got shit else to do.
Equally with a Delta Chat Bot, the one I have in mind anyways, I’d hope to spend less time doom scrolling (mainly talking about Bsky and Threats Threads) and more time interacting to more specific and useful things via Delta Chat - direct interactions, hashtags, etc.
The latter part of that is a “on the roadmap” kind of deal since I have no clue where to start there, but at least the starting point is more simple to accomplish, firing shit at an API seems to be my new skillset.
For now I think I will continue with my little Yeets and Stories project, but keep the bots away from it until it actually works properly.
For the record, yes I know the ActivityPub plugin exists, but no it doesn’t work on my webhost for what I assume is header stripping, bot blocking, and other network level reasons. I could switch hosts, but I’m not going to as this one is quite stable and within my budget thanks.
ps. If you need somebody to fire shit at your APIs, consider hiring me.
