it's weird to have a friend who is going to be killed by the government. can i just repeat what the FUCK right does any human being have to rightfully take the life of another? retribution is the most bullshit thing i have known, which proves true even in everyday life. if my mom is angry at me, and i yell back at her, the situation ends with two angry people and no positive changes. if my mom is angry at me and i listen to her words and try my best to understand where she is coming from and then respond peacefully and mindfully, the situation is over. THIS IS NOT DIFFERENT WHEN WE ARE DEALING WITH HUMAN LIVES. holy shit when did man ever get so fucked up on his own ego that he thought it may be right to inject deadly poison into another human being, in front of an audience of disapproving peers, WITH THE INTENTION TO TAKE HIS LIFE AWAY FOREVER.
first you are strapped to a flat table with a white sheet. the straps are brown leather with metal fixtures and you lie there while somebody puts a catheter into your arm. your family, as well as the family of whomever you have wronged, may be watching in a room across the way, through a big clear glass window, smiling or crying or laughing or feeling a strange mixture of emotions they have almost certainly never felt before. the first injection comes, it's a "lethal" dose of sodium thiopental, which, according to the TDCJ, is a "sedative." about a minute after the first injection comes the second, pancuronium bromide, a muscle relaxant that collapses your lungs and diaphragm. about a minute later, the cocktail is finished off with potassium chloride, which makes your heart stop working. at this point, the "sedative" has worn off, meaning that you are mentally processing your body's collapse, that you are feeling all of the pain that comes with this lethal injection, but that you are incapable of expressing this to the throng of friendly onlookers across the way. about seven minutes after the third injection-- what i can only imagine to be the worst seven minutes of your entire existence-- you're nothing more than a corpse.
oh and, if you're interested, it cost the state about eighty-six dollars and eight cents to prepare the cocktail that killed you.
here, a more brutal description of the process, written by a man who will experience this whole affair in about four years:
