heyyyyyyyyyy
yeah so i def. needed an update so here it is!
because i posted this on xanga vicky said i should LJ it too so here it is. (it's only a minute part though)
um well i was at this thing called National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at UCBerkeley for 10 days... it was AWESOME. i loved it sooo much & i miss all the people i met there sooooooooo much too. :(
so basically we stayed in the dorms at the clark kerr campus @ UCB,
(i slept on the bottom bunk on the left)
and had lectures, med. sessions (you have this group of like 20 people and you meet everyday and discuss stuff or do projects and basically chill :P), went to visit med. schools, etc. for "special" outings, people got to go to places like UCD vet school, balboa teen health center, or stanford linear accelerator center. i got to go to guide dogs for the blind! which was fun because the puppies are so darn cute. :)
also, on another day, people got to go to hospitals and medical centers to shadow physicians and stuff. except some people didn't get to see anything because of HIPAA (which is basically a law regarding patient privacy) butttt... other people actually got to stand next to a surgeon in the OR and see open heart surgery; my friend got to see a C-section! it was pretty nasty when she was describing everything -____- i got to go to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in SF, and i shadowed a physical therapist. so basically i followed her around as she went to her patients (mainly old people). she told me their entire medical history and then why they were here, what she was going to help them with today (like practice walking around in their room or up the stairs), etc. so it was pretty exciting for me... the old people were so cute i almost wanted to cry.
this is the lady i followed around; she is REALLY nice.
...um yeah i think that's all i'll put for now. :/ i'm feeling lazy & sad
