I have decided for 2006 to "make" ONE New Years resolution. Let this be know, this is the first time in the history of my 21 year old life I have ever "made" a New Years resolution. Personally I think New Years resolutions are silly and for most people can be disappointing. Not to mention the whole resolution thing is so cliche and I like to drum to my own beat. (is that even the correct expression? LoL.)
Anywho off topic much. My 2006 (and only in life...) New Years resolution is too stop using the word "like" unnecessarily.
Example:
You know like "valley girl" talk or like how all the teenagers/young adults talk today.
That sentence could be said minus both those "likes" The "like" problem is really only an issue when I'm talking with someone or telling a story. I'm filling the spaces in between conversations with the unnecessary "like". When I'm writing its easy to leave out the "like".
Why the sudden change of heart with the word "like"? Well I've noticed all the teeny boppers use it to tell stories..and frankly it is just DAMN annoying. It's so hard to concentrate on what the story actually is because every other word is "like" I'm not sure if I use "like" as often but for all I know I do and its annoying the crap out of everyone around me.
So its time to kick that ugly habit and move on to a more professional adult way of talking. Its going to be hard too since I know I've been using "like" for years now. Not to mention I'm so used to the unnecessary "like" that I'm confused when I should/can be using a necessary "like" in a story.
It's going to be hard to kick "like" to the curb but hopefully with the support and encouragement from family and friends I can do it!!!
Random Question of the Day: What did you make as a New Years resolution?
