Only 4 hours into my birthday and I've already gotten around 20 happy birthday messages. What this tells me is that I have friends who love me more than sleep. Thanks, guys!
I may get my first pedicure today. I'm having a hard time with deciding whether I want the manicure to go with it. I don't particularly want the fake nails, but the soak and cuticle trim and hand message would be nice... I guess I'll just play it by ear.
My son finally learned to sleep through the night! Granted, for him that means going to bed at 11 and waking up at 8 which is still a little shorter than we'd like, but I'll take it. I'm still getting used to getting that much sleep, though. Withou waking up every few hours, it is somehow throwing me off a lot to wake up at 8. I know I'll have to change this, but blah!
I'm up right now because my nose is runny and Damian woke up and whimpered a little bit before falling asleep again. I'm feeling like we may stop using our baby monitor soon just because he is doing so much better with sleep, and his crib is barely down the "hallway".
Joe works today because he forgot to ask off (Boo!), so I'm spending the day with my mom until she has to leave to get ready to work tonight, and then when Joe gets home, we'll head to Red Lobster. I also ate there yesterday for lunch so I can say with no reserve that the snow crab leg and crab butter shrimp dinner is delicious. The crab doesn't exactly stay on the shrimp, but crab and butter on a baked potato is also deliciou, so it isn't a bad thing.
It feels strange to be 28. I've lapped my brother. He died at 27. Additionally, I'm that much closer to 30. I still think I'll handle 30 better than 25. At 25, I was a quarter of a century old! After having that bother me, what's an extra 5 years?
And, in case you are not friended with
aishuu, let me just pass on some excellent social commentary from her. Hurricane Irene may not have devastated New York City, but it didn't leave New York State unscathed. Many areas, especially in and around the Adirondack mountains, were hit very hard. The areas that are least likely to be able to help themselves were perhaps the hardest hit. That said, if you have the means, please consider donating through the American Red Cross or another relief organization of your preference. This area had flooded earlier this year and had just recovered when it flooded again because of the rain from the storm. It was a small enough area of the state that it didn't receive government support the first time. Libraries were ruined, and a fire station washed away, leaving some wonderful people without access to knowledge, and others without a gathering place, and others with less of a chance of saving their home if a fire does start. I know I say this in the same post I talk about getting a pedicure, but that's going to be a gift from my mom.
As a last bullet point, I've been watching the Korean drama Lie to Me on Netflix. It stars Yoon Eun Hye, the main character from The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince. She is a slightly similar character in this drama, but without the gender issues. I wouldn't say I'm enjoying it as much as Coffee Prince, but I am enjoying it a lot more than the American series of the same name.
Okay, I'm heading back to sleep now. I have IHOP plans with my mom in around 5 hours for a birthday breakfast. And a friend of mine is toting my one Charlaine Harris hardcover book to Dragon Con with her to get it signed, and ostensibly to grab an Eliza Dushku autograph for another friend of mine. Thank you, Barbara! (And for the lunch yesterday!) And, Coatney? You're welcome!
Also, grr. I'm way too hungry right now. It's probably because all I've had since the lunch of Red Lobster was a hamburger with just ketchup at Hardee's around 12 hours ago. I may need to break my fast before I can actually get back to sleep. It's cool to eat Cheetos at nearly 5am in bed, right?
