I'm excited for college. There's this thing on the Earlham website called "Countdown" and it's in three different sections, which are all available at different points during the summer. The earliest one, I was able to choose my seminar/interpretive practice (like discussion) classes. The choices for the seminar are:
.The American Empire, compares Rome and America.
.Black Social Thought 1850-1930
.Bruised Identities: Vienna circa 1900, discusses authors from Austria.
.The Great Transformation: Machines, Metropolises, and Modern Slaves
.A History of Justice
.Is Iraq Another Vietnam?
.Jackie Robinson: Race, Sport and the American Dream
.Jewish Literature
.Leaders and Tyrants: Leadership through Biographies, from MLK Jr. to Hitler.
.Writing Women's Lives
I was told to choose 4 courses that I'd be interested in and honestly, I had a lot of trouble with this one because I only see like two that'd I'd be really interested in. I chose A History of Justice, Is Iraq Another Vietnam?, Jackie Robinson: Race, Sport and the American Dream and Leaders and Tyrants: Leadership through Biography. I hope I get the Jackie Robinson one. Apparently my adviser for this year will be teaching it, that'd be great.
for the interpretive practices the choices are:
.Compassion and Service: The Rise of Caring Power in 19th Century England
.Corporations for Activists
.Faith and Commitment
.Liberty and Justice for All
.Monsters and Marvels
.Nature, Culture and the Arts
.On Human Dignity
.Philosophy and Film
.Race and Ethnicity in the Ancient and Modern World
.St. Petersburg: From Pushkin to Putin
.Taking Risks and Staying Safe
.This Place Called Home
.War and Gender
.Women, Food and Globalization
I had to choose four as well, and I chose Compassion and Service: The Rise of Caring Power in 19th Century England, Monsters and Marvels, On Human Dignity and Philosophy and Film... I think. I think I'd be ok with any of those. I'm excited for college. Hehehee
The second countdown thing was for the New Student Orientation, which starts on August 21 (but I'll be there before then because of the volunteering scholarship I got and the Global Associates Program I got accepted to) and I needed to choose from different activities I want to do to meet people and all that shit. The options are:
.Adventure Orientation, high/low ropes courses
.Cardinal Greenway Bicycle Trail
.Cope Environmental Center Service Project
.Driving Tour of Richmond
.Field Day
.Frisbee
.Fun at Glen Miller Park
.Girls Inc. Service Project, landscaping.
.Hand in Hand Adult Day Care Project, organizing and cleaning
.Kickball
.Rainy Day Games and Movies
.Soccer
.Tie-Dying
.Townsend Center Service Project, daily after school program
.Walking Tour of Richmond's Depot District
I chose Adventure Orientation, Field Day, I think Tie-Dying or Frisbee and Townsend Center Service Project.
The third (and final) countdown thing isn't up yet... but it's supposed to be mid-July. I'm excited. I have my email, (to be sent:) adviser's name, summer reading book, financial shit and other stuff like that. I just need my roommate, building and to pick my classes. It's just a waiting game now.
.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie number 6 comes out in 15 days and I'm OUT OF MONTANA IN 13!!!!!! Home in 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I expect parties.
