eight days until i'm twenty

Things I'm waiting to hear from:

1.  Seeds of Peace counselor application-  There's this girl who applied to be a counselor too, and she didn't get in.  They emailed her Friday and told her they didn't have room for her.  It's a good sign that I didn't get that, right?  I was supposed to find out by the end of February whether or not I made it to the interview round, but I haven't heard anything and it's kinda stressing me outttttttttttt!!!!!

2.  RA notification- I'm supposed to find out whether I'm an RA or not today or tomorrow.  50 people applied, but only 12 are getting in.  How crazy is that???
3.  Study abroad in Jordan status- I only sent in the application on Friday, but I want to know if I can go to Jordan next spring!!!!!!

That's about it, but they're all major things that could impact my life and my next year.  How insane is that?  I've filled out waaay too many applications.  I'm going to call Ron from Camp Hawthorne today to see if I can work there if Seeds doesn't hire me.  Maybe I'll call Wolfe's Neck Farm back, too.  Maybe I'll just babysit full time and go to summer classes at USM so I can graduate in three years instead of four... Maybe I'll work for Outward Bound, who knows!  It's all about the adventures we choose, right?

Oh well, eight days until my birthday :)

...a few hours later...
"Dear Seeds,
We want to thank you for your recent application to be a counselor at camp this summer.  There is nothing more rewarding for us than to see so many of our Seeds graduates apply for this position, and express such great desire in returning to Maine to create the experience for a new group of campers.

We are further behind in the selection process than we hoped to be at this point.  We apologize for the delay and are writing now to give you an update.  Nearly 60 Seeds applied for counselor positions this year (in addition to nearly 200 other applicants) and while this is incredibly exciting, it is also incredibly difficult.  Simple math will tell you that only a small portion of you will be selected for the job; we only hire about 40-45 counselors total,a nd almost half of them will be returning from previous years.  We wanted to send you this note in order to keep your expectations realistic.

Over the next few weeks we wil be giving your applications another read through and may be contacting some of you for interviews.  Seeds graduates will always hold some preference in this hiring process as we want nothing more than to be able to continue working with you and developing your relationships with one another and with younger Seeds.  At the same time, there are critical skills required to be hired as a counselor.  We need a certain amount of lifeguards, a certain amount of soccer counselors and a certain number of people trained to run Group Challenge---all of whom need to be able to work together to create a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for a group of campers.  So as we read through your applications and make ever effort to include as many Seeds graduates as possible, we will be considering these needs and more.

As a reminder, counselors will be required to be in Maine by June 14, 2010 and are required to work both camp sessions, which conclude on August 9, 2010.  Counselors are paid minimally for their work at camp ($1200 for the summer with a small travel subsidy available), although all room and board costs are provided.  We will help to coordinate your travel, however you will be responsible for securing your own visas where needed.  Should any of these details preclude you from continuing in this process, please let us know as soon as possible."

Oh my god.  I feel cool.  Like, awesome, I made it to the second round.  I really need an interview though.  I want to work there soo badly.  I called Ron at Camp Hawthorne and he said that if I email this guy Danny and get hired that I'll probably be able to work at Camp Hawthorne/Camp Windsor Mountain this summer if I don't get into Seeds.  It's nice having a back up plan, but I really, really want to work at Seeds.  I think I'm going to email Leslie, Wil and Tim to let them know that I would really appreciate being a part of the Seeds of Peace counselor staff.  It's what I've wanted since I was a first year camper at Seeds, almost five years ago.  It's crazy that freshman year was five years ago.  I want to work there sooo badly.  I guess that's the end of it all.  I'm going to update as much as possible.  I hope that I find out some good news on or really close to my birthday!!!!
