Character Information
Name: Miroku Shochikubai
Fandom: Yukan Club (drama)
Timeline Summary: Episode 10, after Miroku is caught breaking into the Samejima Unit building. He gets beaten up pretty badly and held at gunpoint, and eventually faints (like a man, though).
Are you importing your character from another game? No.
Background:
At Saint President Gakuen, a group of six privileged (read: rich) students with too much time on their hands gather together to solve random cases and help others. Their group has been fondly nicknamed the “Yukan Club,” with their motto being, “Making impossibilities into possibilities.” Each of these six students possess indispensible qualities that help them solve these mysterious cases, even though they may only be high school students.
Miroku Shochikubai is one of them. The son of a police inspector (commissioner) and a traveler mother, Miroku is usually left to his own devices at home. Luckily, he does have a companion in the form of his dog, Otokoyama. He is a third year student at Saint President Gakuen, as well as the Vice President of the student body, getting ready to graduate in the spring. He is also one of the popular and well-known students of the school, just like his friends-Seishiro Kikumasamune (Student Body President), Bido Granmarie (Manager), Karen Kizakura (Secretary), Yuri Kenbishi (President of the Sports Club), and Noriko Hakushika (President of the Literature Club).
As with the start of every episode, he, as well as the rest of the Yukan Club, can be found in their club’s “conference room,” which is more like a playroom for the six of them. Things such as games, instruments, snacks, and various things that can pass time can be found there. Even though they have all these “toys,” there is one, constant complaint that they all share-there’s too much free time, and that they’re bored (though they tend to skip class quite a bit). Their search to find something to do leads them to some interesting cases and sticky situations.
In the first episode, Miroku meets a girl named Saki, whom he saves from a group of men trying to bully her out of entering Kannasai, a ballroom dance competition that a few schools were involved in, including Miroku’s school. Prior to this, the two contestants from Miroku’s school were attacked, therefore unable to enter the competition. Putting two and two together, Miroku and his friends were able to figure out that the managing director of Kannasai (who happened to also be the president of a construction company) was sabotaging the contest for betting purposes. In the end, the Yukan Club was able to expose the gambling scheme.
Being bored and having too much free time can be dangerous. In the second episode of the series, an awkward situation develops when Yuri is kidnapped. The awkward part of the situation is that Yuri finds the kidnapping “fun,” and even involves Miroku in it (who is quite comfortable and willing… possibly curious as well, considering the situation). Eventually the entire club is involved after finding out the reason behind her kidnapping and ransom. As it turns out, the father and son who were the perpetrators of the kidnapping needed the money for their wife/mother’s heart surgery, since they were swindled out of their own funds. With the Yukan Club’s help, they are able to get the money that they needed, and nothing more-along with the promise to return the money that they borrowed.
The club has the only the best intentions in mind for the people they help. Yes, they may do what they do to pass time, but they genuinely help people that need it. They don’t waste their devices-they have their own surveillance truck (disguised as a cleaning van), surveillance toys, and disguises (mostly provided by Miroku). It is also not only random people that they help-they help each other as well, whenever there’s someone in a bind.
Before winter break, Saint President Gakuen was in danger of shutting down due to financial issues. As it turns out, the Minister of Education wants the deed to the school. In a shady deal with some unsavory people, he is to trade the deed for money to help finance his political campaign. Yet, there is another reason why the deed to the school is wanted. There seems to be rumor that a treasure is hidden beneath the school. The Yukan Club finds out about all of this the tough way.
It was just before Christmas, and their conference room is filled with presents from the student body. Within those piles of presents, Miroku finds a gun. Thinking that it’s only a toy gun, he brandishes it around, pretending to be a cop while Bido pretends to take Karen hostage. Without knowing that the gun was real, Miroku pulls the trigger… and it just barely misses Bido, grazing him on the cheek. In no time at all, the police are there, and take Miroku into custody. Little do they know that the whole scene was being watched-by the Minister of Education. Somehow, a surveillance camera was planted in their meeting room.
At the police station, Miroku is questioned by his own father. Unfortunately, his father can’t be biased in his questioning, due to their relationship. Of course, he doesn’t believe that Miroku would deliberately fire a gun at his friend. After all the questioning at the police station, Miroku heads home and sets his web of informants into motion, to find who it was that planted the gun in the conference room. In no time at all, one of his informants gives him pertinent information (about the Samejima Unit selling illegal guns to various interested parties), but warns him to stay away. Miroku, being the kind of person he is, ignores the warning and heads over to check it out.
When he does arrive, he is held at gunpoint, his informant used as bait. After shooting at pictures of this friends, the gun is pointed back at him, and the trigger is pulled, but no bullet is fired. Miroku is given a strict warning-to do as they say or he and his friends will die. At this point, Miroku realizes that this is a serious situation, and finally understands that there are consequences to their actions. It’s clear to him now, that his life is on the line, as are the lives of his friends.
When the Director of the school collapses in the middle of a board meeting the next day, the club is promptly put under house arrest (so they won’t be able to meddle in the situation). Although the rest of the club is shocked at the decision, Miroku seems to be okay with it-his reaction due to the events of the night before. Once at home, Miroku finds out that his father has been suspended from his job as well, due to all the suspicions over the gun incident. Even so, Miroku is determined to get to the bottom of the situation, regardless of the danger to himself.
Easily breaking into the building from the night before, Miroku is successful in downloading all the names of the gun buyers. Unfortunately for him, he is caught just as he’s about to leave… and he’s back at gunpoint again. This time, however, knowing the severity of the situation, and the events that have come to pass, he actually faints.
That is when help arrives in the form of the rest of the Yukan Club. They quickly dispose of the henchmen, Seishiro wakes Miroku up, and they all return to Yuri’s house to regroup. Here, they come up with a plan to infiltrate the Minister of Education’s speech. In a stark contrast to their other endeavors, everything went horribly wrong this time around. All the club members get caught doing what they do best, and which leaves Miroku to chase after the Minister on his bike.
Of course, this goes horribly wrong as well. Someone sabotaged Miroku’s brakes, causing him to lose his bike (in a subsequent explosion) in the end, and also causing him to sustain an injured leg. It doesn’t seem to faze him, even though his father tells him that he’s going to die. Miroku makes his way back to the club’s conference room at school, where everyone else is waiting.
It is here that they finally discuss the severity of their situation. It’s a tearful discussion about what the school means to them, their friendship, and how much they want to graduate together. Miroku makes a point that he doesn’t want to lose all that. After more tears and more quiet discussion, they decide to go through with a plan. All of them are now well-aware of how dangerous this situation is, and that there is the possibility that they could die.
They set-up the Minister, tricking him into confessing his intentions, while cameras record. In no time, Miroku’s father is there to make the arrest, and everything goes back to business as usual after that-Saint President Gakuen is back in business, with the deed back in the Director’s hands. The Yukan Club is back to normal as well… bored, looking for something to pass the time.
This time, however, they’ve decided to see if the treasure underneath the school really did exist… by digging through the center of the conference room.
Turning impossibilities into possibilities, that’s what the Yukan Club is all about!
Personality:
Miroku is a constantly-bored high school student. Like his friends, he tends to skip class constantly (and also like his friends, does not seem to get in trouble for it), and complains that there's too much free time. The remedy to pass the time and alleviate his boredom is to be nosy-- also known as solving mysteries and cases (usually ones that his father is involved with, but not all of the time).
When there's no mystery or case to solve, however, Miroku prefers to pass the time either playing the guitar or taking his motorcycle out of a ride. He seems to be quite proficient in both-- he has both an acoustic guitar and electric guitar at school, and usually rides into school on his motorcycle. His room at home resembles a garage of some sort. Even his bike can be parked inside of it.
Being the son of the police commissioner has its perks. Miroku has access to various equipment that help with the Yukan Club's various activities. The only thing that he doesn't have access to are weapons. The equipment he tends to "lend out" are mostly uniforms, bulletproof vests, and other things of the sort. It's also really hard to say whether or not the various electronic devices Miroku possesses are police property, or were made by Miroku himself (another activity which he seems to enjoy).
He values his relationship with his friends, and will go to great lengths to protect them. He may give off an air of over-confidence, but underneath it all, if his friends are in danger or their lives are threatened, he's scared just like anyone else. Yet, this doesn't stop him from protecting them. He will try, risking his own life in the process.
Miroku is quite intelligent. Even though he skips class often, he's actually passing in school. He's a quick thinker, which helps get him out of sticky situations. Hhe may tend to give off a 'devil may care' attitude, but he is actually quite a dependable person; he doesn't do things half-assed. He won't leave a case unsolved, no matter what the cost. His family matters to him, even though they may not be the picture perfect type of family.
As far as love goes, it's not something that matters much to Miroku at this point. He is, after all, only a high school student. This doesn't mean that he won't get tripped up by the occasional pretty girl every now and then, though.
He has an addiction to lollipops. A lot of the time, you'll see him with one in his mouth. A habit that he may have inherited from his mother.
Powers, Skills, and Abilities:
Miroku is skilled with electronics and hacking. In the series, he has been seen to build a portable television, and reconnect electricity and phone lines to an abandoned house. He enjoys building and operating electronic devices, as well as his motorcycle. As for hacking, sometimes he needs a bit of help on that front from his friends, but he is usually the one in charge of doing so, and for the most part, it is usually a success.
He isn't too bad at recon, either. He's able to do basic reconnaissance-- going undercover and spying.
He is also somewhat of a skilled fighter... in a sense. He can fight and deliver harsh blows when he has to. He can defend himself. Otherwise, Miroku is just a normal, human being; he can and will get hurt when pushed to the limit.

[The camera's shaky as its owner comes into view. There's the momentary flash of light, disheveled hair before the camera finally focuses on his face. He's rubbing his eyes, a tired look upon his face. A moment passes by, and he clears his throat.]
...eh? This isn't my phone.
That's besides the point, though. I don't know who I'm broadcasting this to, but I figure if you're seeing this, you can probably tell me how the hell I ended up in the hospital...
[His voice trails off for a second, and there's a moment of clarity. That's right. He got knocked out (actually he fainted, but that's besides the point) after being held at gunpoint. There's probably a nice set of bruises on his face right now. He frowns.]
Hm. Scratch that.
[Give him another moment. He's getting himself out of bed, only to look out of the window. He remembers gaining some sort of consciousness earlier, to the voice of someone in his room, but promptly fell back into unconsciousness after the doctor left him with his "care package."
He makes a small 'clicking' sound with his tongue.]
Better question-- where am I?
Third Person:
He doesn’t know how long he spent staring at the bulletproof vest that sat on the couch in his room-the one with the numbers “369” printed on its left breast. His father had been in the bath for a good amount of time already, so Miroku knew he was on a time constraint to make his decision. But with the information his father had received over the phone… he just couldn’t sit there and do nothing about it.
Miroku has always been the nervous type. Sure, on the outside, he somehow managed to exude an air of confidence, but deep-down, he was just as scared of losing it all as everyone else around him was. He just didn't like to show it.
He was the dependable one.
He was the one people could trust.
That was what made it easy for him to keep things from his friends. That was what made it easier for him to keep them out of harm’s way. If he told them he was fine, then they believed him. Everything was always easier that way. They didn’t need to be dragged into this-not with their lives already put in danger. Miroku knew that now. This was his own problem to fix.
With a long exhale of hair, he stood up and grabbed the vest from its resting place and shrugged into it. Using his leather jacket to cover it up, he pulled on his riding gloves and picked up his helmet. All the while his dog, Otokoyama, stared up at him with worried eyes, letting out a concerned whine.
He bent down and smiled at him reassuringly.
“Otokoyama… don’t worry. I won’t drag my friends into this. I’m going.”
And just like that, Miroku left.
