mmmMMMie,
hello! i do not like oatmeal, but i really wish i did. dazee eats it every day for breakfast, even during the hot months. your chili is a good idea. i love chili, but dazee hates it, so i never make it. i should, but now my crock pot is gone.

that's so sad you don't like oatmeal. i only like it as of feb 08 when i first tried steel cut oatmeal at a b&b. it's a totally difference texture than rolled oats and way better. i set it up in the rice cooker the night before and it's ready in the am...except in this picture i had made it on the stove.

the chili is bcg's recipe for 'meaty' chili. it's tvp and beans rather than a lot of veggies. it's really good but i'll probably be sick of it after eating it all week.

i make them with 3 cups water and 1 cup oats and a bit of salt. some people use 4 cups water but i think they come out too mushy with that much water. in the rice cooker, just soak them overnight and turn it on in the morning. we don't have a special setting but it works just fine (i use the timer and set it for when i'm waking up). on the stove, bring the water and oats to a boil and then lower to a simmer. stir occasionally while it cooks for about 25-35 minutes, stirring more at the end.

let me know what you think!

oh, you can also soak them overnight and cook them on the stove - i think that makes the cooking go faster but i haven't tried it.
